Solstice at Solo Nationals

Looks like the Solstice NA and GXP made good showings at the SCCA Solo Nationals:

Ryan Buetzer won 1st in CS, Lynn Collins placed 2nd in CSL, Alan Dahl was 3rd in AS, and Donna Frank (Mrs. Krazed Kanary) was 4th in ASL. I know that if/when I ever make it to the Nats I'll get a good a$$ whuppin, so congratulations and THANKS to all of you Solstice drivers who drove and represented our community so well!

Alan was also floggin the Kanary! Donna had the fastest ASL time on Fri., but had dug herself too deep a hole on Thurs to overcome.

For a while there I thought I actually had a chance at winning AS but Scott McHugh got all the breaks and ended up with 5 runs on Thursday (2 re-runs) and 4 on Friday. He's hard enough to beat even with 3 runs and he drove perfect so it came down to a fight between me and Greg Hahn for 2nd with Greg edging by me on the second day (Greg got 4 runs on day 2 as well but even without his last run he would have beat me by a tenth).

Still this was my best result ever in the Kanary and I want to thank Chuck and Donna for letting me drive their car again!

I'll be analizing the data collected shortly. Yes, Scott was the last person who we wanted to see get reruns, might have just as well hand him the trophy instead. Alan was second on Thurs, within striking distance of Scott even with his two extra runs. I suspect that rubber buildup on the tires might have been the deciding factor with the car not feeling quite as planted your first run on Fri. Still you drove very well for jumping in the car for the first time this season. As you said even if our setup and yours had been identical, the two cars would likely still feel somewhat different, and 3 runs was just not enough to adjust to the difference. It might have been easier if the cars were totally different than close. Maybe next year we can find an event on the same or similar surface we can all attend before the championships or you can do the Finale.
