Congratulations. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Interesting note: Did you notice that both you and your son were beat by a 88 Fiero running that day in E Stock? I think that may spark some discussion.

Technically you can't even change the shift knob and be legal in Stock class.

I have an interesting tidbit....

While I was at our local Autocross meet the other day, I asked a couple of the veterans (both ASP Class Vette drivers) there what class I would need to be in. I told them I had a CAI as my only mod. They told me that even though I have to go through a tech inspection, I really decide myself which class I will run in. They said that if the Miatas in the C-Stock Class decided that I have an advantage over them, then they can protest my classing and then I would have to change to Street Prepared. I thought it was weird that I actually have to class myself..... I think I will run in the Shifter Kart class and get smoked!!!!!!!!!

BUT......I guess I won't worry about that right now, since I will have to run as a Novice for a while (1st run next month) and I decided I will go in the Stock Tires Class.

Way to go, rwc_617!!

Yeah Street Modified II (Street Tire) or (Race Tire) is where you end up once you do anything outside of Stock. As long as it doesn't push you into Street Prepared.

Local event Solo2 is a very low key sport. Most people do it for fun. And that's the way it's run, a new entrant is either supposed to know what is the proper class for his car or to ask an official at the event if he doesn't.

Many time the people in your class won't mind noobies having a few mods... unless you start beating the regulars.

Tech inspection is really a safety inspection, it's not their job to judge if the car is legal, only if it's safe.

I am running Falken AZENIS RT-615 245/40R18 on stock rims. They're decent tires for auto-x and affordable -- a good combination for my rookie season. The smaller profile (40 in lieu of 45) lowers the CG a little and lowers the gearing a little.

That Fiero must have a better nut behind the wheel! On most auto-x courses a veteran driver in a slow car can out run a rookie in great car -- it's all about setting your enterance to this gate so that you exit well for setting up the next gate so that you get a clean run to the one after that and so on and so on ...
