Solstice wins again.
Rob's co driver won AS at the Finger Lakes National Tour two weekends ago. Another Solstice driven by Eric Kriemelmeyer (sorry Eric if I butchered the spelling) won AS at the DC Pro solo this past weekend. Solstice GXPs also finished 3rd, 11th and 14th out of 16 competitors. AS in the east is a highly contested class very deep in talented drivers. The two Lady drivers in Solstices finished 7th and 9th out of 16 in an L1 class filled with past national champions including last year's L1 Pro Solo National Champion.
Even tho theoretically the 2 courses were supposed to be mirror images, the significant elevation changes, the shape of the lot and two types of asphalt paving made them lay out and drive quite differently. The left side was much more difficult to drive and was significantly slower than the right. The AS heat on Sat AM was accompanied by heavy rain which made the first set of runs throw aways. It stopped raining and started to dry the following heat and the pavement was just damp for L1's first set in the last heat of the AM. While they were in impound and the afternoon heats were about to start, the sky opened up with severe thunderstorm with lightning. The event was stopped for ~1-1/2 hrs until the storm passed. The course dried rapidly after that and was dry except for a small stream running across the left course right at the start line for the afternoon AS and L1 heats. Because of the rain delay, L1's runs didn't start until almost 8 PM and the sun was setting as they were released from impound, making for a very long day.
The shot clock never worked all weekend so all starts were manually started.
Sunday AM started with another quick shower, but then the sun came out and the course dried quickly for the AS and L1 final heats. They managed to dam up the start line stream, so even the start was dry.
I never could get a good handle on the left course so I left a couple seconds out there. My rights weren't too bad, but I did manage to cone away my quickest run over there.
My wife evidently had a brain fart Sunday on the right course and threw away 4th place in L1 and a seed in the challenge with a dnf for going on the wrong side of a gate.
