Anybody interested in a group buy for rare and light wheels for the solstice?

As mentioned on this forum, Rays may do a custom build of wheels for the solstice with a minimum order of 20 wheels (5 people). This would give us a very rare wheel for the solstice.

The advantage is that these are very light wheels, strong, very nice, but not your cheap stuff. A guess is anywhere from $2000-$2400 until I get some interest and can find out more.

I have found through much research that 18" wheels are considered better for high performance applications than 19". Lighter and generally better tire selection.

Something like the Volk TE37's that were originally offered, but are no longer available. These rims can be made again in a small run minimum order. Silver, black, bronze, and white are available for colour. 18x8.5" front and 18x9" for rear. The 18X9 may work on the front too, but I have to do some more research.

Another option is the g-Games 99B. Staggered 18X8.5 and 9.5 should be doable.

Another option is the gram lights 57Pro. 18X9 for front and rear should be doable.

There is also a 57FPro.

All of these rims are available in a flatter black, white, silver, or bronze colour.

I think the gram lights are the best way to go with a 18X9 wheel on all four corners. Light, and more traction, and not creating more understeer like a staggered set up.

If you are interested in this throw me a PM! I need to gauge interest.

thx

What is very light wheels to you?

What kind of weights are we talking about?

Lighter than the OZ utralega at 18.4lbs?

They would be about the same weight as the Ultraleggra if kept in the stock 18x8 size.

Here's all the wheels Rays Engineering makes.

Volk
VOLK RACING Wheels

Gram Lights
Gram Lights Wheels

G-Games
G-Games Wheels

I like the Volk GT-S, SF-Challenge and G-Games 99B.

Yes. For example the T37 18 8.5's are 16 lbs!

Volk's strongest lightweight wheel is the RE30. It weighs marginally more than the CE28N (their lightest wheel) but is 30% stronger. If we are to order any wheel from Volk I'd highly recommend the RE30.

The typical 18x8 ET50 RE30 is 16.5 lbs, (stock class autox legal), they also have an 18x9 ET40, (great on the street and 17.5lbs), and there is a 17x9 ET54 (315/35R17 Hoosiers and ~15lb wheel makes a perfect ASP, CSP, SM2 combo).

Check out the colors available here.

My favorite is flat black.

Those RE30's are so sweet!

Nige, you'd have a flat-black toothbrush if you could find one

I'm not interested in the RE30's. They look like OZ wheels that are already offered for the car. There are lot of similar wheels to the RE30's offered for the car but not as light. This thread will be about something more unique to get the interest, like those in the first post.

I remember reading that you tried to get a group buy on these earlier with no luck.... Too bad. Maybe that can change.

Get all the interest you want. But when time comes for actual price promotion or group purchase remember that the forum rules disallow such action by members that are not supporting members (using the guild section) or supporting vendors.

Thx for the heads up. I can't see this as being a problem. If enough serious interest is generated, then that is it, there won't be an open promotion of the offer. And likely a supporting vendor would be involved.

The PM feedback I receive in the near future will determine if this is possible.

I hope there is interest. There are a lot of advantages to this option.

These wheels will look great, increase the performance of the car with decreased unsprung weight (better acceleration, braking, handling), be super rare, and thus in the future will hold their value for resale.

FYI Gravana tuning has the TE37's for sale on their website but they are no longer offered! These wheels are not available anywhere!

Think about it and PM me.

I disagree on your thoughts... the people most likely interested in the lightweight wheels are those who are racing. While some have their car setup for track... most are doing Autocross in A Stock and thus must stay with stock sizes.

I'd be in for this on the RE30 in a stock size, just as Miles stated... because it would be the best advantage for the use.

Otherwise I'll pick up some OZ's later on.

Except that there's no real need to have that type of wheel made because lightweight wheels are already available in the stock size (~18lbs), and you will save money over these ... However feel free to PM My-Low-Sol to discuss if you want to try to put an order together.

Well I really wanted a set of HRE wheels but even if I found them at half price they are still expensive as hell.

Those RE30's are sweet, my color choice would be different though.

Anyone know the price????

I'd guess if you got the possible min of 5 orders (20 wheels) price would be $525-625 per wheel.
