Discuss the New Hankook Ventus V12 EVO [PICS/VIDEO]
Take a look at one of Hankooks newest tires. The Ventus EVO 12. This tire was release not too long ago and its quickly gaining in popularity. I have been more and more impressed with the product I have see Hankook deliver and this one is no exception.
Here's what Hankook says:
Hankook Ventus tires are designed to deliver the ultimate in handling by offering exceptional control and superb braking. Hankook is able to achieve this level of performance by using innovative Multiple Tread Radius design and advanced compound technology. The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 tires provide the precise control and superior responsiveness that are required for performance under extreme driving conditions.
The solid rib block in the center enhances braking performance. It also ensures optimal ground contact pressure and control response at high speeds for excellent handling.
-Efficient water drainage
Wide linear grooves and aggressive Y-shape pattern design effectively channels water away from the tire.
1) Jointless Bead Wire & High Hardness Bead Filler:
Improves high speed stability while maximizing steering response and durability without sacrificing ride comfort.
When plus sizing your tires (plus zero in this case) it's important that the new tire size stays very close to the stock size (height wise 26.7"). The reason for this is the front side of the rear fender liner is very close to the tire under suspension compression.
That said, assuming the correct offset is used (+40 to +65) you can run the following sizes on your 18x8.5 wheels:
245/45-18 26.7" tall
255/40-18 26" tall
255/45-18 27" - test fit recommended
If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

I ordered a set of these tires last Saturday from Discount Tires in New Braunfels, TX. They came in today (from Phoenix) and will get them installed this coming Saturday. Read (Car and Driver and owner reviews) a lot of good things about the tires,. Can't wait to hit the road with them. The stocks on my GXP only have 20K miles, but hate to drive T-Red in the rain- too much slippin' and a slidin'. Would really not like to find myself wrapped around a tree .

Yep, that was what I was thinking. I expect that I will go with the 255/40-18's, although a staggered set with 245/45-18 on the front and the 255/40-18 on the back could be interesting. I really like the Hankook's, but the GM Roadster's Club has a hard to beat deal for 4 Nexen N3000's under $500 for 4 standard and under $600 for staggered. The Nitto INVO's are also tempting. I've got just under 40K on the OEM tires with at least 5K of tread left, but have a nail in the drivers side rear that no one will remove (claiming that ti is too close to the sidewall). Haven't been losing any air in it and I certainly don't want to buy just one tire that won't match the rest now or in the near future. Decision, decisions.

With the nail being so close to the sidewall, I recommend pulling the trigger now on a new set. I haven't had any experience with the N3000, but you can't go wrong with the Invo or V12. I don't recommend the 245/45-18 & 255/40-18 stagger. It's best to go with one of those sizes all the way around. The 245/45-18 is actually taller in height when compared to the 255/40-18 by almost .75".

Ummm, .75" higher in front. I could really pimp my ride with setup!

How do the Hankook Ventus stack up compared to the Dunlop Star Specs? I am about 1 month away from buying a set...have 57K on the OEMs for my GXP and the dealer said "next oil change is time for new shoes".

The V12 and Z1 run in two different classes. The Z1 Star Spec is a max performance summer tire where the V12 is an ultra high performance summer tire.
The Z1 is a R/T tire (road and track) for the consumer who wants a tire they can drive on daily but will grip well at the track. That said, models like this have soft rubber and typically only last anywhere from 10K to 20K miles. You also have to give up some ride qaulity with this type of tire as they are heavily reinforced for maximum response and stability, especially at higher speeds.
Tire models like the V12, are built for performance vehicles but have a little harder rubber for more life. Tires like this typically last anywhere from 20K to 30K miles. They also have better ride qualty when compared to models like the Z1.

Matt,
Can you elaborate more on the 255/45-18 fitment on the 8.5" rims? I see that y'all have an excellent price for these on eBay Motors, which is very tempting. Are you concerned that the added width at that height may cause contact the rear wheel liner?
