Just picked up my 2007 GXP. The tires squeal like all hell. Even if im going under 5mph and turn a tight radius, they make a god aweful squeal. They're quite horrible at sticking to the road as well. Just wondering if this is the norm for the factory tires or if maybe I was had by the dealer? Thanks.
Location: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - remember, its not just women who suffer!
Don't know of anyone else that has had this "experience" unless it was on purpose. Oh ... and sticky tires are a GOOD thing! Wish I didn't have to have All Seasons - someday... someday.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it.
I have a set of the original GXP tires on the take-off wheels I put on my NA. I don't think I'd call them squealers, they're more like chirpers, and when you least expect them to do it.

Mine are the same way. Depends a lot on the road surface and temp as to how much they squeal. Currently I'm having a lot of fun wearing them out so I can justify buying a different set.

Well the car only has 4000 miles now. Hopefully the "chirp" goes away soon. its rather annoying to be pulling into a parking spot with the wheel cranked at a blistering 2mph and have them squealing to high hell. People look and stare to see who the mad man is... As for the PSI question, around 35.
Oh well, I plan on picking up some better tires soon. Suggestions?
Set PSI to the level on the door face sticker, which is likely around 28/29. This will reduce, but not eliminate the squeely problem. As too the stickiness question, I assume you are saying they are not sticky enough? This is obviously a compromise tire, selected for a combination of performance and wear. If you let at least five (5) pounds out of them, you will get a better contact patch, and probably better road adhesion. For really sticky tires, with the coresponding shorter mileage life, do a search and touch base with the AX crowd here. They will be able to recommend several models that work well.

did you get the limited slip diff? if yes, that it explains it.
if you go through a corner with the clutch in, or in neutral the rear tires should not squeal at all. As for really tight stuff the steering geometry of this car does not have 100% ackermann so the the tires do tend to push a little bit. Seal coated parking lots are the worst for this, it's a geometry thing and no tires will change that.
The limited slip diff is torque activated so if you acclerate hard from a corner IE pulling out of your drive way or something with a tight radius you will squeal the tires.
The factory tires themselves are ok, the grip isn't very good and my only real complaint is that by the time they start squealing they've already given up. it would be nice if we had a little softer tire that was a little noisier when approaching the limit.

Tire pressure is indicated on the drivers door, 29 PSI. The squeal is typical of a limited slip rear drive vehicle. if you are used to driving FWD cars, then this is something new for you. If you make your turns a little slow, you'll notice the squeal will not be as bad.

Check the side wall, 35 may be to high.
Parking lot expalins it. Some of the surface treatments make tires SQUALL.
One of my regular Hamton Inn stays on the road really makes them squeel.
Burb does it, 82 Chevy Diesel with Old agressive AT's does it and I love thebystander looks from SOLSTICE tire squeel and chirp

All GXP's come standard with a "limited slip" differential.
This "limited slip"unit will at times force both rear wheels to the same speed resulting in chirping on low speed turns while under power.
As for "sticking to the road" thats a different matter:
You shouldn't be traction limited in dry curves unless there are insane speeds involved IMHO.
And yes I have tried these aforementioned insane speeds.... I know.
I am now limited by the nut behind the wheel...usually.
Of course it's another matter if you are "tracking" the car.
And yes there are better tires out there compared to the factory units.
Dunlop Sport Maxx"s gave me a perceived modest improvement over the stockers.
However I fully expect to see less tread life as the trade off for the extra traction.
FWIW I seem to have gotten the best performance from the stock Goodyears with 38 PSI front and 34 PSI rear...less understeer, close to neutral as in four wheel drift at the limit.
The same pressures are being tried on the Dunlop's.
I had the factory tires and they chirp but only when I got on the car. Check your tire pressure factory recommends 29 PSI, I ran 35 PSI and got much less chirping.

I believe that there is another (unlikely) possibility here concerning the squealing of the rear tires.
If it squeals a lot on every slow speed turn the limited slip unit could be binding excessively.
This can be caused by having the wrong fluid/additive in the differential gear case.
Keep in mind that some chirping of the rear tires when turning is considered normal for a limited slip or posi-traction type rear end.
I guess determining what's abnormal is an issue here, a comparison ride in another GXP might be in order.
