I have a set of these on my extra race wheels. A lot of auto-x racers recommend them as a cheaper alternative to going for R-Compound tires. They're 200 A/A rated tires, so they'll meet local SCCA SOLO Street Tire classifications if your local chapter follows those rulings. I went with 245/40x18 sized tires for $155 each but I really wish I had gotten the 255/40x18 sizes now that I have a GXP. I've found them to stick much better then the RS-A or the GD-2 stock tires. I've only had them in dry and slightly damp environments, so no full wet testing. These tires are not directional but they are asymmetrically so you can only install them on a tire in one direction. This prevents swapping with either side, but you can swap front to back.
I went with these over the Hoosier A6 or Kumho v710 for a couple reasons. They're much cheaper. I don't have a full race alignment since my car is my daily driver so I would eat them up faster. I plan on doing HPDE and wanted a tire I could do that with as well and have it last a bit. I also do 1/4 runs and I wanted a tire I could do that with as well.
How do they fit in the wells compared to stock, and how do you anticipate the other size you mentioned would fit in the wells?
They don't make a 245/45x18 so my 245/40x18 tires are smaller in diameter then the stock so there is more room in the wheel well. The 255/40x18 tires are wider so they help provide a larger diameter and wider footprint then the 255/40x18 but the diameter is still smaller then the 245/45x18.
The Hoosier guys put some massive 295/30x18 tires on their stock rims. So I would assume these would still fit.
Here's a review of the RT-615 from Aug 2005. The compared it to various other tires and did some test laps to determine which was the fastest. There have been some more expensive and better performing tires come out since then though.
Brentil- I was considering a set of these for this season. I live about 45 miles from the autocross track, and I was thinking about changing to the Falken's at home, and driving to the track on them. Have you ever done this? I know the R compound tires sometimes "seal over" if you try this, and won't work as good after it.

In reality the RT-615 is a street tire that happens to work well for auto-x too. I've driven mine down to the 1/4 mile track to do runs on them there since my hitch isn't setup yet. You'll wear them down quicker, but I don't think it'll be all that much of an issue.
Thanks for the response- also- about how many autocrosses do you have on your tires & about how many runs per day are your events? I'm hoping to get 10 - 12 events out of them at about 7 - 60 second runs per event.

All I've done so far with them is 1/4 mile runs, I have yet to have my hitch setup yet so I can bring them to the auto-x events I attend. So far the couple runs I've done have really not worn them down that much. They last much longer then real R-Compound tires.
