Maybe they are using some polyurethane or maybe even some harder rubber.

I'm searching thru corporate releases to see what is avbl to "publish" over here.
Salient point...where the F1 GS D3 is a (de facto) SUMMER TIRE (i.e. ---read dry roads)
The F1 A/S will have superior wet and even snow handling capabilities.
Think NEO SOS run 03-24...you bring your car out of storage early...the roads at 10 a.m. are dry...so off we go
By 2 pm the clouds are forming to the west and the temp drops....light rain followed by wet snow...GS D3's would now be having a problem...the new A/S with carbon fibre will channel thru most wet pavement AND STILL GRIP (thanks to the carbon fibre technology)
and even in light snow.!!!
I am going to score a set of these as soon as they come into production.
I'll track development and keep you all posted.
The wet and dry capabilties of the GS-D3's are top notch, so for us Southerners this tire would not make a difference.

What can say is I've never seen an all-season out perform a comparable summer only tire in the wet. Even the new Bridgestone RE960AS PP (fastest wet lap for any all-season tire) is much slower than the GS-D3 in the wet.
If I ranked Goodyears current tires for blended dry and wet grip: it would be GS-D3 first, Supercar second and GS-2 a distant 3rd. If the F1 A/S is as good as it's supposed to be it may eclipse the GS-2 for blended dry and wet perfomance. Further solidifying the GS-2's very questionable "summer only" rating.

that's what I was thinking - The GSD3 and the RE050A PPs are awesome in the wet and dry. Don't even think about snow.
A good summer only tire has both good dry AND wet performance. Racing tires (like the RE-01R for example, or my experiences with the BFgoodrich KDs) are near-slick, very low tread depth, and not so good in wet but you get even more dry grip. I'd agree with your ranking, miles, I just wasn't sure about the F1 A/S designation and what 'A/S' means - it sounds like you take it to mean "all season".
If this is the case, then the tire will have used a lower net contact area for the tread design and a class of tread compounds that have some snow capability built in. Build in snow capability, and you loose SOMETHING for the tradeoff, either wet or dry or a little of both.

Exactly. From what I understand this will be an all-season tire like the RE960AS PP.

We were really surprised at how well the RE-01R and Neova did in the wet. They're no RE050A PP but they are still very good.
How would the RE-01R's compare to the GS2's in the wet? Oh yeah, and how are they at say 20 degrees? Thanks.
