Yeap. Just what the title says.

Just finished cleaning the body, then decided that it was time for the wheels.
I got around to the last wheel and low and behold, a nice nail sticking right to the head into my rear passenger tire.

Im not picking it out in fear of a disinflation.

Maybe that good old tire inflator in the trunk might come in handy.

I dont want to buy a new tire, becuase this one is brand new, has 190kms on it and a new one is what? $500?

BEAUTY! This is such a good day.

...get it plugged...my wife does this all the time with the construction here in Phx.
I'll bet she's had 12 of these nails and screws...never had a plug failure either.
Canadian Tire under $5 ????

Go get the plug kit from Autozone or Walmart or where ever, pull the nail, shove the tar / glue covered plug in, pull the tool out firmly, cut the remaining tail of the plug off and your done. It only cost you five bucks to boot. Did it about a month ago on my other car. Only done about 20 times in the last 10 years or so!

Yep ... I agree with the plug. Keep in mind they say it creates a weak point and the speed rating is no longer considered valid, but I've gone around 100 mph on a number of plugged tires and never had a problem. If you actually race heavily or something, it might be something to consider.

Also, some say the best way to plug a tire is from the inside with a special plug that has a flat part that adheres to the inner wall of the tire and a stem that sticks out through the hole.

Another thing to consider ... holes that are too close to the sidewall shouldn't be plugged and tire shops won't do it.

Here is what I'd do plug the tire take it off get a new one and you have a spare for the next time and there will be a next time! there always is! Dylan brings up a point to us all of checking those tires I do it once a week and keeps me from being stranded!

I just had mine patched yesterday. It is a permanent fix. It was 35 bucks, but they took the tire off the rim, patched it, mounted, and balanced.

With low profile run flats, is it easy to know when you have a flat? I have always wondered if I would notice it in time.

Yes, unless it flies out when you are driving hard.

If they are so safe than why don't police agencies allow their tires to be plugged??

It is a little more difficult to notice. My tire had 15 psi when I realized it had a screw in it.
