Powdercoating stock wheels

Had a question for anyone that might now the answer to this? I am looking into getting some SKY wheels, swapping out the center caps and getting them powdercoated black, Im not sure if anyone has done this. But my question was if powdercoating will work on the alloy silver wheels or will they only work on he polished aluminum? the Alloy silver wheels would be cheaper to get but will the be able to get powder coated?

It would probably be easier to do the painted wheels over the chrome/polished ones.

They may need to have the alloy wheels media blasted to remove paint (can't remember if they are painted or just open pore alloy). But that doesn't cost much, I know my local shop on charges about $10 a wheel for blasting.

There is a chemical that also strips away the clearcoat from the wheels. i have Polished stock aluminum wheels and they have clear coat over them, but i wanna know if you can powder coat the alloy wheels? i have a freind that will powder coat thse for me but i just wanna make sure that to can run a current through the silver allow stock SKY wheels. inorder to powder coat anything it has to be metal and can withstand 400 degrees.

yeah, it would be easier and cheaper, but painting wheels doesn't usualy last that long. one little chip in th epaint and the the paint starts to peal away.

No I meant it would be easier to powdercoat the painted ones. I'm not sure if the "chrome" wheels are really chrome or polished but typically getting stuff to stick to chrome is more difficult.

I had spray painted wheels back in the day and the paint held up surprisingly well. I went down dirt roads daily but the paint still looked good.

Cpt_kludge had his wheels black powder coated. Contact him. He will advise you to also get your lug nuts done at the same time.

Thanks Carpe
Here's a link to my thread
Powder Coated Wheels
Cost was $30/rim to PC, $15/rim to sand blast and $50/rim to Demount/Mount/Bal. Get your Lug nuts done at the same time as it is hard to find good Black Lug nuts for the SOL.

Hate to bring back an old thread, but does anyone have pictures of their PC'd wheels on a Sly? I think Cpt Kludge's car looks awesome. Just want to see them on some other colors as well.

Thanks,

Andrew
