   Timely thread for me!!!

Guys,

Just yesterday I counter-steered my way out of disaster: I won't bore you with the details, but I was doing 60, straight in moderate rain, kicked in the turbo, and I was an inch from and entirely different kind of post (the kind where you wince at the pictures).

I would like to shift this thread to all-weather tire suggestions if you'd agree.

Let's see some suggestions!

Thanks fellas.

Yes! Please! Suggested replacement brands and sizes would be very helpful for those like me out here...I'll need to replace 'em when they go, and I'm interested in opinions as to good options for daily driving. Others may be interested in opinions for autocross, etc.

Thanks!

No this is all your imagination and perfectly acceptable in a tire that doesn't seem to do anything well. On top of that they are more expensive then much better tires. Perfectly acceptable.

If you want something that's really good in the wet, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

I've got em on two of my other cars and they are great.
Probably going with Pilot Sport PS2s on the Solstice, though, cause it has a lot more power and doesn't see the rain.

I hear that...Thats one of the things I find amazing is that they can get $225 apiece for those death traps. They're not even worth $69.99 on special, with a rebate.

OEM-spec tires always carry a price premium.

The tires are SAFE, DECENT, and perfectly AVERAGE.
Nothing great, nothing special. If you have so many problems with them while daily driving, perhaps you need to examine the nut behind the wheel.

That is why many agree that it would be nice, now that there are many options out there, IF the tire choice was optional for Solstice/Sky purchasers.

If I could find a great deal on a different brand like I did on the second set of RSAs I had ... then I would grab them up in a heartbeat too. My next tires will have to be ALL SEASONS again - but I will go with something a little better than the RSAs - as long as I can beat the price.

I should shut up. I don't even own the car. I just remember RS-A bashing predating the Solstice by a goodly margin... Seems like the RS-As have been out a long time and tire technology has taken great leaps over time. I think the 1996 Cadillacs had RS-As. Maybe the current ones are improved over the 12 year old tires, but most owners seem to be pretty unimpressed with the RS-As. The seem to get a lot of negative feedback. I have no clue first hand.

Tire rack ratings for RS-As

.............................
Surveyed Averages 17 .. 65% . 3.7 . 5.6 .. 5.7 .. 6.8 .. 7.4 .. 7.0 .. 4.6 .. 3.1 .. 3.2 .. 6.5 .. 6.1 .. 5.7 70,826,578

Tire rack ratings for F1 all seasons

.............................
Surveyed Averages . 3 .. 97% . 8.2 .. 8.8 .. 8.9 .. 8.9 .. 9.1 .. 8.9 .. 7.6 .. 7.0 .. 7.0 .. 8.1 .. 7.7 .. 8.4 ... 819,885

And the contrast is even clear in color on the Tire Rack website...

RSAs Goodyear Eagle RS-A

F1 All Season Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season

Gee, I wonder which one should be OEM on the Solstice and Sky? Hmmm.... Such a difficult and confusing choice...

With the F1 All Season you get a FAR better peforming tire that is quieter and more comfortable with better treadwear and STILL performs better in snow and ice. Of course, this is all based on surveys, so I guess you have to take it with a grain of salt. Other than that, what am I missing?

Funny how the F1 GS-D3s don't seem like much of a step up from the All Seasons. Meanwhile, I can't even rate the GS-2s because NOBODY even buys them, aside from OEM for Solstice GXP & Sky Redline.

I'm out of the loop and I'm sure somebody sweat all these details, but to my uninformed mind I can't understand why GM doesn't just put the F1 All Seasons on both the base cars and turbos and call it a day???

jimbo, the ratings you posted are user ratings and somewhat suspect because of the widely varying ages, tire preferences etc. of the responders. If you read some of the comments you'll see what I mean. I prefer to use Tire Racks "professional tests" using a select panel of drivers or their reprints of car magazine tests. While they aren't perfect, they are much more reliable and scientific than the raw user comments and compilations of user ratings.

The RSA brand has been around for sometime, but that doesn't mean construction, materials etc don't change some with the times. I suspect cost plays the major reason one tire over another is on the base and GXP models.

I agree. Surveys are questionable. Suggestive, but not conclusive. Where can I find a professional test of the RSA and the F1 All Season on Tire Rack?

Here is a link to all the Tire Rack Goodyear reviews (not customer surveys).

That's one of the funniest posts I've seen around here in a while. Thanks JR.

I don't push mine very hard so I really don't have any complaints about the RSA's. Maybe a little hydroplaning now that they have over 20k on them.
