Anyway, several weeks ago the motor in my '07 GXP started making a helluva racket. I had the fortune of dealing with an extremely loud rattling sound that just came out of nowhere.
Took the car to a dealership in west palm beach (which, incidentally, happens to be staffed by complete MORONS!) and when they took off the valve covers, they discovered a bent lifter and the rocker arm "just fell off". Normally a powertrain warranty would cover this, but apparently, because an intake and I/C piping can cause hard engine failures, the claim is being denied.
(I'd fight this if it meant I needed a new engine, but as it stands the motor still runs. I just need a new set of lifters and a rocker arm, total of about $140)
Ive decided to do the labor myself, just to get the car into a working condition so I can sideline it and start the build-up for an LS2 swap (the motor burned 5 quarts of oil in 2 months. I dont trust it.)
The only problem here is that Ive never done top end work on an overhead cam engine (mainly pushrod diesels). Anyone have any tips, advice, or maybe a repair manual for a similar ecotec? I have access to any and all tools needed at this point in time.
The only other problem is that I've yet to take a look at the motor myself, as its still stuck at the dealership.

That is a bunch of hug wash, you need to call Pontiac service or get to the Regional rep involved.
The engine is protected by the ECM and unless they discovered you had very little oil then this claim cannot be denied.
Other folks have had this issue and GM fixed it.
The dealership may not want to do the work but GM is on the hook for this one.

you tell me how an intake pipe causes a bent lifter??? You can't cause they have NOTHING to do with each other.. Unless you sucked a brick into the motor.. But you would have noticed that..

Carpe Diem - I've said it before, and I still agree . . . A front license plate on a Solstice is like a Playboy centerfold with a hair lip.

Thats the other problem. Like I said, it burned almost 5 quarts of oil and I didnt find out until it was too late. I do have records of most of my oil changes, and the receipts from my most recent one. Ive already gotten corporate involved, but they're saying the same thing (the dealership called them before I did)
They're also declining replacement of my top because of the damage from a UHaul truck (which you've seen LV) and which was verified by another Pontiac dealer PRIOR to the accident (but that doesnt matter, because the impact couldve caused the top malfunction that existed prior to it! No lie, thats what the lady from GM corporate told me repeatedly). Not to mention, Ive already had my top replaced several times.
I swear, after these incidents, its pretty damned obvious why a company staffed with nothing but incompetent idiots hell bent on screwing customers over is in major trouble.
