Hi all, newbie owner (just picked up my GXP yesterday). Any comments on the break in period or process would be welcome. In garage for a couple months till the salt is gone on the WI roads, haven't opened the owners manual yet, but real life experience is probably more valuable anyway. Thanks . Oh yea, and any thoughts on winter storage, etc. also welcomed, thx again

First 500 miles ... no hammering the throttle, no downshifting, try to avoid hard breaking, avoid the same speed for long stretches, keep it under 70. That's about most of what is covered in the book. If your going to store it all winter then once I had those 500 complete I would probably get the oil changed. Then you can drive it like you stole it

There is pretty hefty thread going on in the "General tech, base solstice and base-GXP, common subjects" section titled "oil changing tip" which deals with this in detail, although there are differing opinions....

Investor,
Hey, Well I really looked to Mike and Rusty for the break in period. I just turned over 600 miles on mine. It was hard to keep in on the "ground" but 100% you need to! I am getting my oil changed on Tuesday. The manual is always not a bad place to go. LOL......

I Am Following The Manual On Break In, I Reported A Loud Klunk Sound And My Car Just Stopped Dead 12/24/06 Had To Tow It To Dealed With 147 Miles On ,,,, Service Took 4 Days To Find That A Short In Wiring Harness Leading To Starter Failed,,, Slaming The Started Gear Into The Flywheel ,,, Probley A Good Thing I Was Going 5 To 7 Mph ,, And Not Fifty When It Failed,,, The Only Warning Was A Grinding High Pitch Noise Coming From The Top Of Engine,,,, Which Only Happened Twice For Short Periods 20 To 30seconds After Starting Before Failier,, If U Hear Any Grinding After Starting Kill It And Tow It To The Dealer Right Away,, I Hope No One Has To Deal With This Like I Had Too,,, The Car Now Has 455 Miles And No Futher Problems ,,,
