I gassed up today with my usual 93 octane, as I'm fueling I notice a sticker on the pump
fuel contain 10% Ethanol or more. Has the Ethanol always been in the fuel and the Gov. is now making us aware??? Or is this something new? If so wondering how it will affect performance, O2 sensor and my BSR tune?......I guess I'll let you all know...Michael

It changes based on where you are and which season. Your car as well as all new vehicles sold in US that burn gas` are E10 compatible. Better alternative to mtbe.

We've had Ethanol Blended fuel here in Chicagoland for over 12 years. Ours varies from 7-10% blend depending on the season. My 06 has never had any issues. As stated, a safer choice to oxygenate gasoline than MTBE.

We've had 10% ethanol here in Orlando since April of this year. I did the drive to Mecca in May on 10% ethanol. FL started in the Central FL region and is moving outwards with the 10% and will be permanent from now on.

Most cars made in the last couple of years will have no problems with ethanol at 10% levels. You go above that into 20% or E85 and our cars are not designed to handle to handle it. The main issues are corrosion of parts made with the wrong metals and you also have to have more powerful fuel pumps as well.

In low levels like 10% I've notice like fuel economy values while highway driving (32 mpg for 100% highway at 70~75 mph) and I've actually noticed a 1 mpg increase in city driving. I chart my fuel values on fueleconomy.gov and the data plots and my city average has increased 1 mpg since the move to 10%.

Have noticed better fuel mileage in winter than recently 27.6 vs 29.1 (winter) with my 87-100 mile commute on rural VA roads, I-66, DC Beltway and MD 29. Rural roads 45-50; I-66 & beltway at 62-64 -JUST UNDER POWER RANGE. Soon as I goose it-- drops to 24.6-26.4. late at night the 62 is very pleasant with little traffic and just enjoy the SOL!

Spider, you are so right. Gov't leads us to believe one thing, and the sheep follow blindly. I wish more people would research the facts and make intelligent, not knee jerk, decisons.

Drill here, drill now!!! Did I say now? Yes, I did!

I tend to agree with you guys. Although the jury is still deliberating as to the benefits and potential problems of 10% ethanol mix, all I know is that my gas milage has gone down a bit since using the stuff.

Check for a sticker on the pump next time you fill up. It should say that "up to 10% ethanol" has been added. It is intended to oxygenate the fuel thus diminishing the amount of carbon monoxide (only partially oxygenated carbon) produced in the exhaust stream.

I think that most of us having been running 10% ethanol for a long time and it is just now being mandated by the different state governments that the pumps must be labled. They have been labled here in Va. for a long time, nothing new to us. I have never run my GXP on anything else, it's just not available here. Never had any issues other than it readily absorbs water, and I run a gas dryer at least twice a year.
