Just trying to get an idea of which aftermarket exhaust will give me the sound I'm after.
Exhaust must have a muffler, and I would plan on using the Solo high-flow cat.
At idle, I want to be either the same as stock, or just a bit louder.
When driving, I want the exhaust/engine to sound smooth, not ricer honda-ish with a $20 pepboys muffler. When the rpm's increase, the loudness increases of course, but I want a really smooth sounding exhaust, maybe Porsche like or something?
I have the Solo SQR2 and I love it. It's do's not drown you out of the car when you are going down the highway. It gives you really nice sound when you let off the gas too. This is not me but it helped me out on getting mine. YouTube - Solo Performance Exhaust Solstice Drive By

Solo SQR-2 center exhaust,Solo High-flow Cat and Clear Image Shorty Header.
Sounds Great. At first it was alittle loud but after running it awhile it toned down. It will turn peoples head trying to figure out what I have under the hood

There are related threads that might help the most recent started by RixToy1.
Not scolding here, I started a thread on another topic after extensive searching then found what I wanted yesterday way back in the history of the Forum. Search stings don't allways work.
You guys that give us these links are doing Yeomans service here, thanks.
For what it is worth, I too don't want to blow rice out the pipes and sound like a crotch rockett on steroids.
I called SOLO direct and told the tech what I am telling here.
Let me make some clarifications and draw some analogies.
Wife saw, wife wanted, we discussed, "John Boy" found after extensive search, wife drives "BABY" more than me. Wife has History degree from USC but worked outside her degree. A song "Annabell Beacher," from my era says it all. I want the low roar of an XKE now,
up to the big six roar at WOT, then the rumble, burble and...maybe some of you retired guys hear the note.
SOLO guy said add our resonator....for wife who referred to the GM CATback I wanted as a "SMITTY."
I am not advertising SOLO, but I SHOPPED hard from here to Charlotte and listened to clips on the road on high speed. Clips just don't do the great systems justice, gotta be there. Go to Vegas, Deleware, KY, meets anwhere or meet owners in your area to compare before buying.
Lotus, I see you are a GXP by your profile, right?
What I just posted DOES NOT APPLY TO YOUR GXP!
"BABY" is a 2.4L, soon to have the dual FUJITA, then SOLO.
I feel your need for speed Lotus, and I feel by your forum name, that you may want the sound of a 60's era LOTUS buzzed up at WOT in DT Monte Carlo in an era BEFORE Lisa Halaby moved east.
Somebody help here, there is one drive by clip on U toob that might be the one. Car was black, 2 lane street, overcast day...I am cursed with dial up right now and can't find it.
Damn dial up! I got just enough on a 5 minute buffer to hear a chick say "GUYS, WAIT UP."
Close but no cigar. Had not heard that one, that was so funny, "guys, wait up"
I gotta save that one for Hi speed. Clip should be titled "Guys, wait up" way too funny.
That clip needs more wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnng! to sound like the one I heard. More Indy,
Know what I mean Vern?
Hmm I want to fly under the radar myself. Gonna get the mach exhaust once I see a real dyno chart with it and a intercooler and bsr tune. Until then I am happy carving corners at 30mph :P

Solo Performance has great products. I didn't want something too loud and I didn't want it to sound the same.
Check mine out (Solo GXP Mach "Shorty" and solo high flow cat):

The high flow cat will be quiet at a stop, I am not so sure you will get what you want with any exhaust and the high flow cat except maybe leave it stock and just change the cat. The Solo Mach is about the best of all possible worlds, with or without the high flow cat. The cat makes a lot of noise. I would try the Mach system and then add the cat later if you want more noise. It's harder to install the cat than it is the exhaust.
