OK I have several mods on my car all of which have improved performance. I have had inconsistent performance since the car was new sometimes really fast other times it seemed a bit off, pretty much the same after the mods. Well I have found the cause, or should I say causes. First one was at the intake side of the boost tubes. I replaced the factory rubber hose with a Dejon metal elbow, found the rubber hose was loose at the intake and had been leaking boost, you could see the marks on the rubber. Things improved. This past weekend I replaced the intercooler and other hoses with silicone and finished replacing all the clamps with T-bolt clamps. When I pulled the hose off of the turbo the clamp was finger tight, this is the factory rubber hose that came with a T-bolt clamp. I tightened everything up and put it back together. The difference is very nice it performs much more consistently and power and gas mileage are way up. I should have checked these long ago, but never thought they would be loose from the factory and not throw some kind of code. I recommend the T-bolt clamps, they are $4 each and worth the money and effort, I doubt I will have a problem again.

Moral is the cheapest mod you can do may yield huge results.

The IC clamps are 2.5" the intake clamps are 2.75 but you have to replace the hose as they are part of the stock hose. The Dejon elbow is only $99 and it's metal. I got the hoses and clamps from a Verocious company on ebay, they have a website as well.

Hangover Monday I think, I have read about other type cars with turbos this is a very common problem, one little leak can make a world of difference. Think of it this way, people spend $500 on an exhaust to see maybe 15 rwhp, $300 to see maybe 5 rwhp with a CAI, you could be loosing 25 rwhp because of a loose $.50 clamp. The T-bolt clamp is a very cheap and easy solution.

I eluded to it in an earlier post, Verocious Motorsports guess I was to subtle. They are on ebay or the web, decent prices and they ship FAST! The T-bolt clamps I got the bands are a full inch wide, they don't cut in when you tighten them and they will get very tight, they also have a table to tell you which clamp to get for which size ID hose. I can not begin to tell you how much better my car runs. I have seen stock dyno sheets from 205 to 225, I bet leaks are what the difference is, well and the dyno. Low gas millage is a sign of a leak too.

yeah, i'm really starting to consider the last metal elbow from Dejon. Last piece of rubber in the entire intake system, and of course, it's the hardest to get to. Once in, i'll go over each and every single clamp in there.

Wow, great information. So, stupid question, how many of each size clamp do I need? Is the turbo inlet the only hose that needs to be replaced or are all the stock clamps attached to the rubber hoses? Thanks

For the intercooler you need 4, 2.5" clamps the hoses are 2.5" ID if you swap out the intake elbow those are 2.75" ID and you have 2 couplings so you need 4 clamps. I highly reccommend doing the Dejon elbow, to me a rubber hose on the intake that expands and contracts isn't a good idea. I like the silicone hose it seals better and looks good, might as well do them all at once. You can do the Dejon elbow and all the hoses and clamps for under $200. I want to do the Dejon IC tubes soon but doing the new Solo cat first and that shoots my allowance for this month.

Pictures, Go-N def that would be your job next weekend.

Thank you for the information. I will also remember that it's the intake elbow and not the turbo elbow.

Edit: Also, thanks for specifying ID..you are right, Verocious makes it clear what size clamp you need for any ID.

Okay, so I just did a quick check. The first thing I looked at was the intake elbow. I agree with lil goat that it's pretty flimsy. It was obvious to me that the upstream side of the elbow was coming off of the intercooler pipe. It seemed to be on tight, but was slipping off. I had to loosen it a great deal to slide it all the way back on and re-tighten it. The engine side was connected all the way, but was only finger tight. I had to turn it several times to tighten it up. I'm going to take her out for a ride tonight to see if I can notice an improvement....it does look like I was losing boost.

I'm going to be ordering my Dejon intake elbow tonight as well as all new T-bolt clamps.

Lil goat, if you could point me in the direction of the specific silicone bits you ordered I would appreciate the additional help!
