GMPP CAI on 2007 GXP

Without discussing the merits of the GMPP CAI vs others etc., I have a question for those who have installed one on a 2007 GXP.

According to my dealer and the instructions in the kit, it is not specifically listed for the 2007 GXP. It is only listed for the 2008 - 2009 GXP and RedLine.

Does anyone know of any issues with the installation of the GMPP CAI on a 2007 GXP, if so are there solutions?

Thanks in Advance for any help.

I hope there isn't I already have one on my car.

The only issue that I seemed to have was that the shield contacted the bracket for the intercooler pipes(ever so slightly) as the engine rocked and thus moved the piping about with aggressive driving.

It could be that I have not installed things as I should have. I looked over the entire thing and all seemed copesetic.

I have since pulled the shield off. The paint was worn with contact and the noise that was bugging me was gone. I also sometimes worry that sounds like that cause false knock readings. So I try to eliminate them as I go.

Anyway. If there is an issue with the 07's and the GMPP intake, I haven't realized it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, since you are asking about the GM version and not any others.

I am also considering a CAI as well, but I don't like the one offered by GM. When I had my Z3, the after market CAI's had a heat shield. I was surprised to see that GMs version did not have a heat shield.

I am happy to see DDMWorks has come out with a CAI with a heat shield. That is the one I am leaning towards.

DDMWorks - LNF Air Intake System - AIS

I am no expert on the subject though.

It does has a shield. The one I took off. I believe most of the aftermarket add the shields simply to comply with California regulations that require the filter to be covered.

I appreciate DDM's direction. It makes more sense than the typical answer of extended piping in the hunt for cool air. Nice short and straightish pipe with the ability to open the tube around the maf for later calibration. Sounds like a great part.

I'd like to coment on the cold air induction topic.

I used to work for a company that made intakes. Time and again we were shown that the shortest possible intake gave the best possible performance. While this didn't always produce higher peak power, the cars definately drove with better responce. However, I have witnessed cars idling for extended times with intakes just over the exhaust stumble on launch.

I am convinced the introduction of the extended CAI was an effort to justify intake prices doubling and profits thus. Surely cool air is a reasonable expectation. I would warn about considering it as the defining factor for your decision.

Anyway, that's part of my take on things

I still apprecaite my intake. I do have a certain buyers remorse regarding it. Since there is no tangible power gain, I might have spent the money wiser. It really does look pretty in my engine bay with my other polished pipes. The sound completes the obnoxious image that I like to portray. At least I figure the whoosh psst and the loud exhaust man up the car a little.

Thanks everyone for your quick and informative responses.
Since the GMPP CAI was not specifically listed for the 2007 GXP I wanted to make sure there were no issues before I got out the tools.
Perhaps there is an ommission in the parts catalogue.

I asked my dealer about the same thing before I purchased it. Service writer said that as long as they installed it, there wouldn't be any warranty issues. And I haven't had any problems with it on my 07.
