Justa' FYI

I was under the hood the other day and noticed that the braided hose going up to the nipple on the air intake, just after the airbox was flopping in the wind so to speak. The nipple was broken off with very little left on the intake. The fiberglass-plastic composite is tough to glue back together and I really didn't want to but a new tube so I did a little brain storming. I found that a 22 LR case, fired of course, will fit nice and tight inside the bore of the nipple. That and some glue I have from my injection molding prototyping days fixed it nicely. First I ground off the bottom of the case to make a brass tube. Then bridged the break with the case after lubing the outside of the brass tube. Spun it around so the break match up perfectly and seated it. Last, I let it sit for several hours to cure and it was as strong as new, probably even stronger with the brass reinforcement tube on the inside.

Happened to me too

I noticed it was broken off after the check engine light came on and I looked the engine over. The previous owner or dealer that sold it to me must have glued it back on because I found glue residue on the tube side, looked like superglue the nipple was gone... . I wouldn't be surprised if it was the dealer, the car was pretty messed up when I bought it, crushed panels form lifting, top not working and a couple more things, couldn't beat the price though .

I was lucky to find a used airbox and tube on ebay, bought it together with a dejon cai, I need to get an airfilter for the cai, but I'm not sure if I want to put the cai on or not.

Anyways now I have a spare airbox.

There have been several posts on this subject. I bought a used 07 in march and it was the same way. I think the consensus is that it got broken while changing the air filter. I disconnect it when changing the air filter now......NUB....

Good idea! For those without access to .22 spent cartridges, various model shops and some craft stores sell short lengths of brass tube in various diameters. If you can find the correct width you could cut short lengths off that to use. Just as an alternative.
