A little while back passing a transport I pushed the GXP to around full throttle. I noticed in the rear view mirror a puff of white smoke. Now mind you it could have been dust but there was a bit a a very very small stutter in the gas petal as well.

Suggestions?

white is usually coolant. I doubt you have any coolant in your cylinders, was the car cold when you got on it?

I sometimes notice some white smoke from the rear view of mine as well. Only a wisp and only at WOT.
It really shows up if the sun is shining from behind the car.
I believe that I have noticed the WOT smoke since the first time or two that I got on it.
No oil or coolant is getting gone at 5K miles, and the performance is super. So I believe that it is inconsequential.
I suspect that it has something to do with turbo charging and the large amount of fuel that must be getting injected at WOT.
"Where there is smoke there is fire"
So if there is a lot of fire there may be some smoke?

Good luck.

Rickey.

Right on the dot! It's normal...nothing to worry about. I asked my pops who has been a mechanic for over 30 years.

This might be for new turbo cars, but as a rule you want to stay away from white smoke.
white is coolant.

Well, Jim, a good mechanic can often diagnose a problem simply by looking at the color of the exhaust that comes out of the tailpipe. For instance, black smoke means that the fuel/air mixture is too rich.

Ray: Blue smoke, on the other hand, means that oil is getting burned in at least one of the cylinders.

Tom: And white smoke generally means that a new pope has been elected.

Ray: Actually, Jim, white smoke means that coolant is getting into one of the combustion chambers. The white smoke you see is vaporized antifreeze coming out the tailpipe. And antifreeze is probably getting into the combustion chamber because you have a cracked head gasket.

that is true if it is a steady stream of white smoke and it will be accompanied by a sickening sweet smell.

I've had a cracked head gasket and the smoke from the coolant burning is non-stop, not intermittent. An occasional puff like Critterman describes is normal in most turbos I've seen.
