   Swapping the 2.0 turbo

Alright, so i currently am working on a 2003 cavalier and rather than turboing my 2.2 ecotec that hasn't been modified to support a turbo, i figured it would be a smart idea to just swap my cavalier 2.2 ecotec for the 2.0 turbo ecotec of the GXP. From there i can just buy a bigger turbo, intercool it, etc. Now, for the question..what will I have to do swapping the same engine just for a smaller literage? I'm assuming that the transmissions will be the same, will I have to do something with my ECU, mounts, etc.? I appreciate any help!

Only a couple guys have swapped 2.0's into the J body. Even still, they did somewhat hybrid designs. I have not heard of anyone swapping the LNF so far. The power steering is an additional issue. All the plumbing would have to change. I recal that the LSJ tranny doesn't directly fit the J-body, so it's likely that the LNF doesn't either. The GXP's PCM is a new animal to us here in North America, there won't be too much help getting it to work in the J.

If you want to be unique and be ground breaking, it's a great project, but dollar for dollar you're far better off playing with the 2.2.

That 2.2 can take a ton of abuse. The Saab turbo and manifold fit the car and work well up to say 300 for a junkyard kit. Hahn is the man when it comes to the L61 and the turbo kit. If you are worried about it not being prepared for boost, throw in some decent pistons and rings and maybe a set of valve springs. The GM build books are online and have part numbers and various tested options. The engine as it stands will take well over 200 with no issue at all.

Go to J-body.org. You will find the most info there. I believe someone is currently working on an LNF bottom end in one.

Why not swap the supercharged 2.0. Thats a nice little motor as well plus theres already a lot of support for it.

Why not take the LNF from a new Cobalt Sport. Or install the GMPP Supercharger kit. That's what I had on my cavalier and it was just as fast as my GXP was stock. After I had a pulley, injector, intake, exhaust, and tune done the car was a 12 second car. Added nitrous for that last second drop off. I got rid of the car because the cavalier is hideous looking and cant turn or stop for **** without a lot of work. My brother has been enjoying it now. Haven't put the time or money into the GXP yet, payments have been hurting me.

I drool over these parts all the time. It's almost dirty.

Ecotec & 4-Cyl Components - Crate Engine Depot

I am suprized there have been no Kappas utilizing these parts. It's a shame really.

The books can be downloaded here. GM really does have a long history of suporting the compact tuner. Even the iron duke had a build book. Lol. GMPP FTW!!!
