Traction Control Question

Part of my break-in scheme is wot spurts in 2nd and 3rd gear. On several occasions a rear wheel will start to break loose and the traction control stops the wheel spin. In a previous car the traction control would not allow ANY wheel spin. Are any other GXP's experiencing this slight wheel spin before the traction control activates.

You will loose TC temporarily (they call it Low Traction) ... make sure you do not shift during this action, because the manual says it could harm your transmission.

The wheels will flare up before you enter control. Traction control cannot anticipate losing traction, it can only react to it.

If the TC in the GXP is the same as GM uses in it's other cars, it reacts on the slow side. In both of my GM cars that have TC, I react to wheelspin faster than the TC system.

What are those cars and what engines do they have?

So far I have been able to chirp the tires with the traction control on - and in the wife's GTI we can get significant wheel spin before the ESP kicks in - it's kinda fun!

Might have something to do with those vehicles having more weight on the back end and various other vehicle dynamics that make us feel the car breaking away sooner then the feeling travels in those larger SUV type vehicles. Might have something to do with the Aztek being FWD vehicles too. They're designed more for posh and luxury ride then our rougher sports cars.

I just know my friends 2007 Mustang GT is very much like ours for how quickly and how it reacts to low traction events.

It's not the same. Different suppliers, but the functional description would be the same. Although the GXP would be tuned more on the "sporty" side. Also, the Aztek doesn't have e-throttle so traction control can't close the throttle to cut torque. Not sure about your SRX. What Brentil said would apply too.
