The socket itself don't have a part number, but I'll tell you what, next time the Cornwell man comes in (and that's usually weekly) I'll find out how it can be ordered through them. It's the only special tool you'll need from them, the rest are just standard tools ie. a 3/8 extension, and a 3/8 ratchet.
This is a well designed tool.... if I owned an Eco-Tech, and did my own oil changes, I wouldn't be without one. So I'll find out, and post the info. in this thread . Oh, another nicety: As I recall, it's very inexpensive too!
I just ordered lisle 14700 from amazon. I'll let you all know if it fits. ~$9 for it.

At least on the base solstice, changing this filter is a piece of cake. It's a bit tight, but nothing that should bring profanity whilst changing it. I haven't seen the 2.0L motor yet, but I would think it's similar.
The special socket mentioned is really nice too, as it allows a straight extension to be used without a pivot. When I change one, once the cap is free from it's threads, I quickly lift it out and invert it, to avoid spillage. Then pop the new element in (push gently until it clicks in place in the cap) and screw it back in. With practice, these are less messy than most conventional filters.
It's a bit off topic, but buying a box of latex mechanics gloves to do these oil changes are IMO worth every penny. I could work on cars all day, and go home with the hands of a young Sweedish boy because I used them .
any 32mm socket will work..but snap-on and matco also sell a special tool.

I got the Lisle 14700 Oil filter socket. It states it's for GM 2.2L engines, but it fits the 2.0L GXP as well. It's made in USA!!!

Gentleman,
The oil filter is just below the oil cap-driver side. In order to replace the filter on 2.2L Solstice or Sky you need an "Oil Filter Socket for GM2.2L Ecotec engines" that attaches to a 3/8" drive socket wrench. I bought mine at Murray's now called O'Brien's but any auto store or dealer will have it. I paid 8.99 and was made by Leslie Part#14700. It is so easy you won't believe it! It comes out the top so you get no drips. The oil pan uses a 15mm socket or box wrench. Again, very simple and drains away from everything under the car clean as a whistle. I wish I could upload my pics of it but I don't have a URL. Hope you have as much fun as I did.....DAVE

I'm pretty sure they figured this all out 3 years ago when this thread was last posted to. And what the heck is a 2.2L Solstice?!?!?

I had the right socket in my tool box that I have had for years. I originally bought it for my MGB so I could rotate the crank damper when setting the valves. Why MG used such a humungus crank bolt head is beyond me, but it works and on my friend's 04 Cavalier as well. I change the oil every 3000 miles in all my vehicles except my ZL1 Camaro.
