Has anyone come up with a solution on overriding the air conditioning turning off when fully accelerating?
I appreciate your comments

I'd not recommend it. You would likely damage the AC compressor at high RPM if you forced it to remain on.

The ECM shuts off the AC compressor under full throttle to make more power available to the wheels. The assumption is that by going full throttle you want maximum acceleration. I can't really imagine spending enough time at full throttle to make lack of AC a serious comfort issue. Why would you want to defeat the function ?

Cars have had this feature for many, many years, even V8s. In the '70s, there was a switch on the carburetor linkage that cut the AC. Now that cars are 'smarter', the computer chooses when to shut it off.

I keep my full throttle bursts to a minimum this time of year...you do feel it here when it's 110 plus.... But I would not defeat the auto off at full throttle function...and I have black on black outside in one of the hottest areas in the nation. Another thing do not under estimate the load the AC puts on your engine...the shear dynamics of a positive displacement compressor puts enough strain on this engine especially under severe high ambients...the faster you spin that compressor the greater the pressure lift and the greater the horsepower required to turn it. If I need full throttle to pass a big rig or climb a hill or to make a split second accelerated "Holy S*IT!!" maneuver ....I want the AC to shut off...

I noticed that phenomenon today, the a/c offing was noticable, but not long enough to increase the sweat levels. Nice to have the power available when you need it.

I live in Dallas, TX where the temp hits 100+ frequently between July 4th and Labor Day, but the humidity is very low.

Lately, I have noticed that if I cool the car down with the AC & recycle on, and the fan speed at 2, then turn off only the AC, the cabin stays very comfortable for quite a while (most of my trips are 45 minutes or less). It feels like the AC is still on.

Give that a try and see if it helps with your WOT AC issue.

The air conditioner IS still on when you set the control to recirc.

Makes sense. Suppose turning the AC light on automatically when the recycle is on was just considered "overengineering."

exactly. it all started in the mid 70's when gm bought the patent from an independent inventor that developed what was known as the thermo limiter... he developed it for Vega owners.... its been standard since then....now incorporated into the ECM.
