   Broken outside door handle (PICS)

I have pictures of the driver side door handle that pulled out the other day.

Now on to the story... Wednesday when I head to work, the handle pops out and I see the broken posts in the handle. I pop it back in and head off to work and call the dealership. My salesman wanted absolutely nothing to do with me and hung up the phone on me after telling me to call the service dept instead of transferring me to them.

I call the service dept and they want me to come in so they can see it and made an appt for Friday 10am. I clearly tell them that the assembly is broken and will need replacement.

So I wait till Friday (today) and show up at 10am. The have me pull the car into a line and I tell the person to not open the door from the outside. She then whisked me into the service booth with paperwork to fill out and asks me to have them put a warning on the order to not open the door from the outside.

Aaron (service rep) makes a few calls to find a new handle and is wondering the same thing as me as to why nobody took care of this on Wednesday. Then they could have had one her and it would be fixed today. Now I have to wait until Monday to hopefully have the new handle shipped in and have them replace it at 1pm. I now have secured Aaron's card in my wallet.

Ohh, the door handle was popped out again when I returned to the car because someone tried opening it from the outside. argh

Wish me luck.

Now for the pictures:

Let's hope GM has done a redesign of these handles in the newer models, it is defenetly a problem.

Looks like a good time to go with a shaved door handle mod. Hope it goes easy for you. I went three weeks with out a shift knob because of a broken 15cent lock ring that was not warehoused yet. Finaly found out who the manufacturer was and they sent me two for free. the dealership one came in a wek later.

Man, sounds like your dealership is managed like the DMV.

Hope they fix it for you quickly and correctly.

New handle is on, it took them under an hour to replace it. I did not see the new one, so I have no idea if the posts are now metal. But the repair guy says the same thing happens on the Lucerne.

I am happy, and the paperwork is going in the car logbook.

Anyone know for sure who the supplier on that is? My guess is Siegel-Roberts from the design and the fact that it's plated as well. S-R does a LOT of this type of work for GM vehicles.

Just wondering... I do work with S-R for my company, but not in automotive anymore, so I don't have contacts at the right plant.. but curious if anyone knew the supplier for sure. Can someone take a look at the part next time their handle falls off and tell us or take a photo please.

So I have now joined the lucky "outside door pulls breaking off club." Mine is on (off) the passenger door's.

I sure would like to know how frequent this is and how soon I can expect the other one to break free!

Mines actually pulled out off the passenger side door Thursday morning as I was opening it. After all the swearing and a 3 hr cool down I called the local dealer in my hometown set up and appointment for Friday morning. Brought her in that morning , got Lola back that afternoon parts are on order and will be there Monday. I don't know if this is a southern thing are not but the used double sided tape to hold it on until it gets fixed.

That sounds like they at least believed you about getting a door handle. I had to wait for them to see it and THEN they ordered it. Causing me two trips.

Shaving handles is when you modify your door to have a smooth door with no door handles. You open them with a key fob that actuates a small motor or something that will open your door just a crack so you can get in. It's very clean looking.

The only problem I've seen with them is that occasionally the person installing it will forget to put a manual button somewhere hidden that will manually open the door just in case their battery dies. I've seen a few broken windows because of that.

If you want to see some pics, just Google "shaved door handles". They're everywhere.
