QUESTION:Is this a new replacement part or just the same one that had the problem to start with?
Steve
Just picked mine up yesterday they replaced the carrier assy. because I had a
loud whine the part # on mine was 15825073 this is supposed to be the new one. I've only driven about 75 miles but so far the whine is gone and I don't think I ever had the clunk there is a big diff in sound seems to be more like it was when I first got it.
So it begs the question, the new part number seems to be for the addition of the new mount, and nothing to do with the leak, whether is the overfill valve or seals correct, WindFace?.
Thanks

I believe that is true, only revised for the mount.
I wonder if they felt the rearend was torquing up under acceleration causing the seal to deflect, causing the leak. A new mount could address something like this. I have not seen the old or new rear end, so I am only taking stabs in the dark.

Looking into the revised carrier issue further, I can say the redesign is for the front mount only, not for leaks, or the "clunk". It was done so the carrier would be more compatable with different car lines.
I've posted in other threads that I had my carrier replaced, they did it because of the loud whine or howl.I had no leaks and the clunk only sometimes. Yes they told me that the mount had been redesigned. The difference is amazeing no whine no clunk and it's very smooth.
If the difference is that dramatic, one would think that the GM brass would roll out a recall or a change notice and do it for all of us.
I have had signs of the whine....clunk..yes but goes away with a varying shift pattern by us....no leaks......but would agree if this seems to eliminate two of the three...
may not ever be a recall but rather replace as needed for the customer....the same was true for the first electronic steering columns in the 04 Chevy Malibus....it was never a recall issue..but many were replaced as diagnosed by the service departments...and there was only a TSB published on it

Monday I took a 500 mile trip and on the way back I got the Diff whine.
Took it to the dealer, they confirmed the whine. I told them to be sure to get the new #15825073 and if they couldn't then don't fix it until they can get it. They called later and said they talked to the tech people at GM and were told to hold up on the change that their not sure that carrier is fixing the problem. Their doing more testing.
