I took my '06 to the dealer and demonstrated the harmonic whine I was getting frm the rear at different speeds and loads. They will be replacing the differential for me. I'm looking forward to leak free, clunk free operation after the replacement.

was at my Pontiac Canada dealership today to get the pinnion seal recall done and
complained about the rear end whine. even brought a tape recording in case they didn't hear it while I was in. Have figured out on mine the differential needs to be hot say 15 to 20 minutes of driving before it will really start to whine.
Well everybody heard it but they said it was not that bad and they handed me the GM bulletin that says certain amount of whine is normal and to compare it against other vehicles @ the dealership. They did admit to changing one rear end as the whine was so bad even when it was cold. This is the first Canadian rear end I have heard that was changed because of the whine. No new differential for me but assurance that it has been noted in the official record and I may qualify for a goodwill repair in the future after the warranty runs out if the rear end gives me trouble.

They didn’t suggest turning up the radio?

I brought my car in, and told them that I needed a new differential because of a whine at certain speeds and loads. They said they would test it and get back to me. After about four hours, I got a call and they said that they found nothing wrong! They told me that three technicians took the car out and could not understand what I was complaining about. I went back to the dealership and asked that a technician take a ride with me so I could demonstrate the whine. Within 30 seconds of our test drive, the technician stated that the differential needed to be replaced.

So I picked up the car yesterday after the differential was replaced. Everythign is running great! The diagnosis stated that there was metal in the differential fluid. The carrier was replaced. Part number 25858218. The best part is no more whine and no more clunk!

I'm glad that "SMOKIN" is back on the road again, Shadow, and better than ever!

I'm also glad they didn't try to get out of the warranty because of your Hahn Stage II.

Enjoy that wonderful car!!!!

Yeah I'm glad too. In fact, when I drove with the technician he asked me wat mod I made to the car. He mentioned that when he tested it prior (without me) he stepped on the gas and knew it wasn't stock!

By the way Gizmo, how do you know that my plate is "SMOKN"?

Aztek - I'm very familier with your thread. It was the one that encouraged me to complain about my whine. Thanks Dude!!!
