All who have experienced a differential leak with their Solstice
are requested to post here AND to mceb's "Build Dates For Diff Leaks" thread:

Build Dates for Diff Leaks

See Small Dealer's VERY important Post #140
in this thread concerning the GM Bulletin.

NEW NOTE: Here is a link to Chip's Pinion Seal Replacement Durability Thread:

The List of Forum Members with Differential Leaks is now maintained at the this thread:
New List of Members With Differential Leaks

EDIT NOTE: SPIROB suggests that each Forum member order a
pinion seal ($20 or so) to keep for emergency. Order now and if you're lucky,
you'll have one if and when your problem starts.

Pinion seal part number is 88996592
Entire rear differential part number is 15825074

Anyone have pictures detailing where to look about the the rear differntial for any early signs of a leak? May monitor frequently, before development of the smell and potential blow up?

Thanks, Chip, for bringing that to my attention. I have updated the list in Post #1 of this thread.

I invite each person who has had a differential leak to make a post to this thread when the situation has been resolved. We would like to know:

Date of first indication
Date taken to dealership
Date picked up from dealership
Description of the symptoms
Description of the cause
Description of the resolution

This will give us a good central location to view this serious problem and provide information for Forum members affected by similar circumstances in the future. Thank you for your assistance.

Thanks for this post, windface, I did a copy/paste from the other thread where you posted this.

Problem - diff leak, dealer has replaced some 'vent part' 1/11/06

Noticed still a small leak, took it back and they replaced the pinion seal.

I have a leak too!!
Miles: 1850
LSD: Y
Clunk: Y
First Seen: 1/5
Size: Tennis Ball
Next Day Size: Half Dollar

Will post resolution after Dealership visit.
I know for a fact that this is all it has leaked because I park in the same spot at work every day and in the garage at home. Hope it's nothing serious as this is my only car. Will be the 3rd time at dealer for repair.

2) Remove swirls put on by Detailers trying to remove rail dust and swirls

Be sure and verify with service if it's a true leak or just the overflow value spilling some fluid as 2KWK4U outlined a few weeks back.

Well, took my car in to the dealer on Friday. It's definately the pinion seal! About a 2 hour fix. Only one problem, They can't get the seal in any time soon. I called all the surounding dealerships to see if they had one. I found 2!! Problem #2, They are both reserved for other customers who have the same problem I do! The Service manager said the order was put on the highest priority but he couldn't get me any timeframe as to when it will be in. They might have to get one from the factory. I know they are going to try to get it quickly because they had to give me a Cadillac CTS in the meantime. It's costing them money. Maybe ordering a $5 seal for yourself might not be a bad idea just in case seeing as how we have had so many people with the same problem and nobody having them in stock. That way you won't be without your cars for possibly several days!
