so tonight my friend went to open my passenger side door and the whole handle just came off. im gonna take it back to the dealer tomorrow but has anyone else had this problem? the car is fairly new a 2007 with just about 7000 miles on it so thats why im wondering
I was at the dealership last week for a check engine light on my Solstice. Another Solstice owner was in at the same time for this problem (door handle popped out). I thought at the time that was really strange. Imagine my surprise yesterday when my buddy went to open my passenger side door and the exact same thing happened on my car. I'm taking it in tomorrow to get it looked at.

This has me a little rattled every time I open my door....I sometimes "feel" like the handle will come off - probably on a date I have 30K on my 2006 and am wondering if the dealer will just replace the door handle with metal now if I ask them. My warranty is only good for another 6K - which is prolly to the end of this year for me.

AFAIK, they don't have a metal one to replace it with... They just replace it with the same handle...
I have this issue as well, but with the driver side!! What cheap quality. That is garbage, my Honda never had this problem. I hope this isn't a prelude to future issues....

You might consider calling ahead to your dealership if this repair is under warranty. Replacing the driver side hand requires replacing the entire driver side door panel, interior and all. It's likely they would need to order the parts.
Remove, maybe. But replace entire panel to get inside? Does not sound right unless someone screws up taking it apart. It would then follow that replacing a window/window regulator or door lock would require a brand new panel.

No, I do not work for GM or any subsidiary or supplier.

I really hope you meant "remove", not "replace". I can't imagine having to replace the whole door for something like this...
I just had my passenger side handle replaced yesterday. It is under warranty and they will have to order the part. It took about 2 weeks to get the part after it was ordered.

I did in fact mean replace. To repair the driver-side handle on my car, the entire interior panel had to be replaced. The passenger side handle is attached differently, according to the dealer, and can be repaired without replacing the interior panel. The work was completed under warranty, and I doubt they would have paid for a new panel unless it was necessary.
As an aside, I'd recommend anyone getting this work done check the small plastic cover behind the interior handle. It is a flimsy plastic piece, apparently easy to break when removing to get the panel off. The tech that worked on my car broke one of the "prongs" that hold this piece in place and simply stuck it back in there, perhaps hoping I wouldn't notice. It came loose after a couple days on the road.

Wow, really? I was hoping to take the dorr handles off and get them painted. Seems like an awful waste to have the handle attached to the panel like that...
