I have noticed a lot of posts regarding electrical gremlins that seem to come and go. Well today I was under the hood and went to reset the ECM, due to a post regarding the fact that some dealers give you a free tank of gas, REGULAR gas. As usual I check all of my nuts and bolts as the car is put together by automation. Some of them have to be snugged down. I was checking the fuse box under the hood and found that all of the fuses, relays and circuit breakers moved when I pushed them down, I believe that this could be a reason for some of the intermediate electrical problems. I also found hood latch bolts that were tight but not snug and easily turned.
Check it out on your Sol, it may cure some of the problems and stop minor squeeks and groans.

Great post, JewJenk. That certainly might explain a lot of the electrical problems. Worth checking out.

I'll be checking that out, hope it works. Yesterday I stopped to get some gas the car was off but the keyes were still in. as I opened up the door, the radio came on, nothing but white noise though... I kept waiting for my dad to talk to me from beyond the grave
o'kay now, maybe some one can tell me what happened. And I don't know which one changed it, after reseating all the fuses, relays and everything else in the fuse box and resetting the ECM, I took the car for a drive. I used to have a type of clutch chatter on starting in first gear at low RPM. That is no more, the engine seems to run much smoother and faster, gear shifting seems smoother (manual) revs are quicker. Seems like a different car, and this is without the ECM flash. Also noticed that on startup, after the ECM reset, all the center yellow lights on the Hi-vac knobs, (three rounds knobs right below the radio) flashed together for about 30 seconds and then stopped. I would assume that this was the ECM reading all of the electronics.

Yep, looks like Gizmo the accountant stumbled upon the cheapest mod possible.
<---- Gizmo
I don't know why it works, but yes, disconnecting the negative on the battery and reconnecting after at least half an hour resets the settings back to OEM and the car seems to run better.
Now I'm sure the retune will be even better, and I intend to do that after I get my long tube headers and cat-back dual-exit exhaust. But for now, this seems to be a winner based on cost and effect.

Similar experience here, including the flashing yellow lights! Gas mileage also improved by about 2 miles per gallon.

So Giz, its removing the neg connectors from the battery that resets ECM? Do I leave the pos in and just remove the neg? I've read somewhere the opposite. Taking the pos off and leaving the neg on for about 30mins. Does it matter? Would like your comment. Thanks.

The way I understand it (and remember, I'm an accountant!), if you leave the negative connected while you disconnect the positive, you run the risk of zapping all your electrical components.
So everyone says: always disconnect the negative BEFORE you ever disconnect the positive.
Yes, simply disconnect the negative for at least half an hour (I suggest you make it at least an hour) and then reconnect. Then drive aggressively, shift at higher RPMs, downshift when appropriate.
After you've run her for awhile, be sure to post to the ECM Reset List Thread with your evaluation. Reference is up above in my previous post. Thanks.

Just press down on all of the relays, fuse and anything else in the fuse boxes, you will probably have some or all of them move a little this in essence will seat them more securely in their respective slots. What this will do is stop any intermentent connections that might be interfering with the operation of the vehicle or/and electric components and causing problems.
If you have the ECM redone and then take off the neg battery terminal for 30min, does it reset back to OEM or back to where you paid to have it retuned at. ???
The ECM ir ROM and will reset to what ever the latest parameter where. So you would get the mod you paid for after you disconnect your battery. Remember you don't send the battery with the unit so it is disconnected the entire time except when they flash it.

... I was checking the fuse box under the hood and found that all of the fuses, relays and circuit breakers moved when I pushed them down...
Just to make things easy for others, can you describe where under the hood the fuse and relay boxes are?

It's the shoe box sized black box located on the passenger side right in front of the battery. On either end of the box there is two tabs. Push them outward and then pull up, this should get the cover off.
