????What is so difficult to understand??? If you pay for it out of your pocket, then when they announce the actual recall, you have 10 days to submit your receipts for reimbursement.
Everyone else can wait and have it fixed for free anytime AFTER the recall is started. It's not rocket science (even tho we do drive rockets).
Because ... that is what I believed it to state also, BUT I was told I was not entirely correct.
Perhaps you are right ... perhaps not. I will wait until Small Dealer explains it OR the recall comes out.
OH .... I do understand some Rocket Science too!

To the best of my knowledge ... the only reason the differential would "lock up" would be due to the total loss of all fluid. Most people on here have noticed the pinion leaks as well as the vent issue well before any total loss of fluid would have occurred.
There is no need to "panic" and go rushing to your dealership prior to the recall notice coming to YOU.
I'm waiting until the actual recall comes around. I too believe people should get recall work done as soon as the recall is issued.

Your lucky; I've only ever understood Science Rocket (Home schooled). ; )
So stop worrying about the 10 days. It is meaningless. It is just a requirement of the federal regulations to be included in GM's notification letter to the NHTSA.
Please.
Thanks SD, that makes it pretty clear to me. I bet even MomsSol can understand this one.

After reading Small Dealer's further explanation.....I was wrong. It IS rocket science! I apologize MomsSol.

Well while hunting down an exhaust leak I noticed that my muffler and surrounding area had what appeared to be grease. Upon further inspection I noticed a very tiny drop of oil by the differential and so it appears that I now have the beginnings of a leak. My question now is with the recall supposedly being sometime in February, can I still bring it to the dealer for repair since I don't want to wait for it to get worse?

I am waiting to hear from my dealer also. They were suppose to replace one of my seals last week. Then I heard about the recall, and told them to check on the parts that they had just got in to see if they need to wait on the new version seal. I will know more after the Holidays.

There is no reason that I can think of not to take it in as soon as you can.

According to Small Dealer the new seal KIT has been available for the last couple of months and is in plentiful supply.
I'll look for his post and add it here if I find it.

As has been mention in several posts ... IF you suspect you have a leak - DO NOT wait until the recall in February!
Take your car to your dealer NOW ... have them inspect it ... just don't let them only replace the pinion seal if that is the issue. (they can't order that part anyway)
They need to order the KIT now in order to do the repair properly.
Thanks for the advice, I will have to bring it in after next week since I will be away on business. The car has 8002 miles on it and I have it since February 2006.
