The transmission is a turbohydromatic. It is a technology that has been around for a long time. This particular transmission is used in a variety of expensive cars that have a reputation for reliability. Furthermore, the transmission is big and beefy... meant for much larger engines than the little 4-banger in the solstice. lt is overkill for the solstice. It ought to outlast the rest of the car...

I'd be heartsick if I had all of the problems that this person has experienced.

The only complaint that I have with turbohydromatics is that they are noisy. They whirr, click, whisle, buzz, whine, etc. But it is usually not so bad as to be offensive.

I'm sure it is possible to get a bad one, but it seems like an unusual thing to have happen, considering the fact that it is a known, proven technology, and an off the shelf item with a proven history.

For those who wonder why anyone would drive a sports car with an automatic transmission.. Why not?

I for one believe you. I LOVE my car, but have endured much down time due to repairs. I've had the diff leak fixed twice. Then the clunks and the whine. Roof leaks ect. I am exasperated with GM. "We can't tell you that sound isn't normal" Pleeeaaase! I swear they put out a bulletin telling their techs not to fix any more rear end problems. I have one of the original 1000. I suppose it's kinks, but one makes a new car purchase to avoid stress and enjoy driving. I'm sorry to hear your experience was less than pleasant. I share this with you, but still love my baby. I love to drive her. Enough to consider starting over with a new 2007.

again..time to find a new dealership...as either the service writer is uninterested, un- informed or just doesnt care....anything to move the customer along attitude.....any service person who states failure at 8K is normal wear and tear.....for a seal......isnt a good technical service/writer....
