Mine has 7300 miles, and a front shock is leaking. Dealer says two weeks backorder on the part.

I had heard of a couple very early VIN Sol's that had a shock problem. However, I have not seen any indications that it was a widespread problem. Chances are, you just were unfortunate enough to get the odd, bad shock. Just take it into the dealer, have them replace it for you under warranty.
Now I have been waiting almost three months for a backordered part. Isn't that time enough? Oil is dripping all over the inside tire when parked. Shame GM. Building thousands of Solstices, and won't spare one part for me. Where do I complain first? My dealer just doesn't seem to care.

Have you raised in with the dealership owners or gen manager? Seems like someone should be able to find you a shock!

Local dealers says in Spanglish that he can do nothing if the part is still backordered. Gave me the number for Chevrolet. Gee thanks.

I had the same issue with a leaky shock on the rear drivers side about 2 months ago. I had less than 2k miles at the time.
The dealer ordered a new shock, and it was here two days later. Bummer to hear that it is now on national backorder. Like others have said, this problems doesn't seem common (at least as much as leaky diff's) but it's no unusual or surprising. It is a little suspicious that the shock is on backorder though... you have to wonder what the real numbers are.

If you can not get anywhere with the dealerhship, raise the issue with the regional representavive. I believe there is a process that the dealer can initiate to locate a part - it's been mentioned in several of the diff thread. Let me see if I can find one of those threads for you.
GM's highest priority order is called a spac case, basically the parts mgr. puts your VIN. into the system with the order. Things happen alot quicker when this is done....

The parts manager should add a SPAC case. This tells the system there is a vehicle down waiting on the part. GMSPO (GM parts) then hunts dealer inventories to expedite the part. If the part is found, it is shipped (usually overnight) to the requesting dealer. SPAC is the highest priority parts order available.

Called Pontiac customer service. They called the dealer. Dealer did not actually order the part, just claimed they did several times that I checked with them. Idiots.

So now we know that "holding the order until there is allocation" is a possible Parts Department policy, not just Sales.

Add me to the list of leaky shock owners (right front). Was probably leaking from mile one but didn't notice until it ran out of oil and started to clunk at around 2500 miles.
Just remember, you can go to any GM dealer for warranty work, not just the one where you bought the car. I'd say it was time to find a new dealer.

A Pontiac dealership, not any GM dealership, for warranty work
