Hey All,

Question(s) for all of you. Some of you may have remember my post a while back about my air vents (directly above the radio) rattling at speed. Well I took the car to my local dealer (not where I purchased the car) and two tries later they re-installed in the vents and I was again in quiet bliss...well at least the bliss of my CAI

Starting last week I starting getting a vibrating rattle from the trunk area (what appeared to be behind the driver's seat area). I thought it was loose interior trim so I took it to the dealer. Again to tries later the interior trim (which was visible loose was tightened and I was told some wires were re-insulated) and the noise is considerable better. (This was almost the noise you would hear when the wire hits against a speaker cone).

Driving home today after picking the car at the dealer I was enjoying a much quieter ride again but whenever I hit some bumps in the road I still get complaints from the car. First I will state in that in Michigan we do have terrible roads that our rather bumpy and that this is my first convertible and I also split my time between the Solstice and my H3 which of course soaks up the bumps slightly better.

My question to all of you is: Are these squeaks and rattles just part of owning a ragtop roadster or should I be trying a different dealership. The dealership I bought the car from had a great sales staff but I'm not crazy about the service dept (just opposite for the dealership where I'm getting service now). I do know the car did appear to be a lot quieter until I started putting the top up and down (meaning it doesn't matter if the top is up or down but using the top made the difference).

Solstice Forum Wisdom would be appreciated

I had a rattle I could not figure out for a long time evey time I hit a bump esp rr tracks which I have to cross every day near home--finally figure out it was my antenna-the tall one that came with the SOL--kind of a twangy rattle-changed to a shorty and no more rattle--

The solstice has a stiff framework so it should not flex as badly as most convertables that are made from a hardtop design that has been stiffened.

Some rattles and groans will be normal as well as some wind noise.

I guess what I should be asking is I am getting more and more rattles as the car ages. I got the car in DEC took it out a few times between then and March (always with top up). Over the last two weeks, I've really started using the top. Besides for the vents, the other rattles have just started appearing. Is it normal for this to happen or should the car still sound like it did when it was new? Keep in mind I've only got around 700 miles on the car, so its not like I've put 10K of hard driving on it!

I hate Michigan roads too.
The worst. I cringe when I go places. Smooth roads are few and far between.

If it is over 40 and the sun is out my top is down, I only have 980 miles, but no real rattles, maybe I need to turn down the monsoon.

Mine started at about 3500 miles. I'm getting a really bad buzzing sound coming from the instrument panel. I've been too busy at work to get it in and have it looked at. Hopefully, next week.

I am from the Downriver Area.
I only have one picture of my car! It is on my page. My sister took a picture when it was parked in front of her house. I am going to take some pictures this weekend and add them to my page.

With about 150 miles on the odo, I notice a sharp squeak from the driver's door when going over some rough surfaces. Means the door needs a little adjustment. So far, so good. No other leaks, squeaks or bangs, except for low rpm clunk and lsd plates breaking free after a long winter's nap.
I have heard the LSD plates breaking loose a couple more times, after having not driven my Sol for a couple of days.

At about 2000 miles I started getting a very obnoxious squeak right behind the drivers seat whenever the top was down. My first guess was that it was due to a loose screw after installing the bushings for the Kappashield. Wrong. When the top is down, the pins that fit into the windshield frame rest in a couple of L shaped brackets that have some padding on them. The pad on the drivers side was peeled halfway off and the pin was rubbing right on the bracket. I stuck the pad back on and the squeak is gone. I think it's going to be a recurring problem though until I come up with a solution better than the factory pads.

That was it! Now I'm just trying to find the best thing to put on it to stop the noise. The factory felt just plain sucks!

Will let you know if the hardware store yields any truely great solutions worth sharing!
