Heard back from my dealership, they are ordering another top for me. That's good ! However, I mentioned again that the fix would be to install the required teflon tabs that would stop this from happening again 6 months down the line.
I'm sure they will do their homework but I will be keeping an eye on this one.
They are still investigating this on a larger scale and can't seem to find anything in their databases.....if anyone finds a recall notice or somethng like that....please pass it on.
Thanks,

So many tops have been replaced by now, they most likely all have the plastic tabs.
according to my dealer they have to arder an entire piece just to get that little tab
pontiac is missing this boat big time and they really need to add those tabs to every top that doesn't have it if they want to both save themselves the reputation of the car and tons of bucks
The part numbers that were posted are for the entire bar, and the document is listed as well. Mine have been on order for over a week and the top hasn't come in either. I won't let them install the new top until the bars come in.
FYI I checked my 1700 mile 07 GXP (feb build) last week and it had the old pieces on it. Even with little use the rubber was separating on the piece for each side. No top damage yet. I had the dealer order the new pieces. I will update when I get more info.
I'm sure there are a ton of people out there and on this forum that don't even know about this issue because it is hidden and starts from the inside. I wouldn't doubt that for many the issue won't become apparent (become visible on the outside of the car) until after their warranty expires.
Last week I met a fellow forum member with about 9000 miles on his 07 gxp. He didn't know about the ripping issue. We took a look at his car and sure enough, the rubber on the suspect pieces had separated and he had a nice rip starting on the inside.
Dealer called today, he got in the replacement bars and said my new top should be in next week. I printed out pictures and part numbers when I took the car in. They did not hesitate to order the new parts. It is covered, strangely every 06 I have seen has the tabs.
Dealer told me that my top replacement order was on hold :-( He said it was because they are working on a new design to stop this from happening. How weird is that ???
Alot of guys on here are getting them replaced no questions asked......sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. He did assure me however, that the top would be repaired and all fixes applied.

I just noticed that my top pinched today. Pulled up the top and noticed the tearing, went to the other side and starting to tear there also. I have an 06 N/A without the tabs. I am going to call my dealership today and try and get an appt. I will let you know what I hear.

They were on hold until September 13th, have him check for the document listed above, it releases the hold. It is not a TSB
10/24 appt. mechanic and service advisor looked at top I give them paperwork with part #'s said they'd research and get back to me. A week goes by no call so I call them my service advisor is on the phone other guy says will give them the message and call you right back. That was yesterday morning still no call. Nice customer service.
Where's the courtesy call saying "we're working on it get back to you soon as s we can"
And then they're going to want me to fill out their customer service satisfaction survey.
I went out to the car and noticed that I'm missing the tabs on my 2006 N/A. No ripping on the drivers side, just a little fraying on the passenger, but nothing, too bad. I patched it with a nylon tent patch to keep it from getting any worse.
The culprit was definitely the sharp metal ends. The best I could do is cover them with duct tape, which worked well surprisingly. The tape stayed in place through several cycles of opening and closing the top.
Those that got the dealer to order a part are very lucky. I've never had an auto dealer order me anything until damage has occurred, barring a recall. From what I've read on this board, there should really be a top recall. Ok, let's be honest, this car should have several recalls already. Why is GM so slow to move? Just have the dealers inspect multiple failure points on the top and replace those that are malfunctioning.
I saw that someone fashioned their own tab out of nylon. Where did you get the supplies to do that?
