I dropped it off Tuesday morning they called last night and it's done. That was pretty quick. I will pick it up tomorrow and see how they did.

I took the car in and got it back today. What a PITA. They told me to stick around because it would only take about an hour. Over 2.5 hours later they were finally done.
Almost all dealership's services are so sad. To me it is like going to the dentist... even at the best of times it is still a pain. I told them to do an oil change and make sure to use synthetic because the car needs it. The service rep said the car doesn't need it. I noted to him that the oil cap dictates synthetic only. Then I told him to only use a drive on lift because the car has special lifting procedures and many dealers are bending the floors. He then said that he didn't think the car needed any special lifting and asked a mechanic about it. At least the mechanic knew about the special lifting requirements. Sad.
Then when I went to take off I noticed the DIC oil monitor wasn't reset. I went back in and told them about it. The service rep came out to reset it and 5 minutes later with me standing out in freezing weather he can't figure it out. A mechanic comes out and another service rep, and they spend another 5 minutes figuring out how to reset the oil monitor before they got it. Their reply after that was that they didn't know it was different from the base model.
I haven't taken a close look at the new pieces, but it definitely is a redesign even from the visible weatherstripping part of it. The top fitment is fine too, which I am happy to say, thank god.
Kwtoxman, that sure did not sound like fun. I am bringing mine in Monday. Brought it in ten days ago the mechanic and service writer looked at it but had no idea so they were going to research and get back to me. Called the other day and said they could not find anything regarding problems with tops so they would send out to upholstery shop to fix. Called me back a few days later and they want to take a look at it again on Monday. The first time aroung I brought them in paperwork with part #'s, pictures of the piece that is missing etc. Hopefully will hear good news Monday.
Regarding resetting oil monitor different on GXP's from the base models.
That is hard to believe. In any case I reset mine using the manual booklet.
I wanted to quickly warn members not to order the part yourself from gm parts direct dot com. Firstly, it is a nonreturnable item. I ordered it (my dealer won't fix what isn't broken) and received the part with NO tabs and there is no way to return the part!
Here's the worst part of the story. I checked the car again and I actually have the plastic pieces. Yup, I originally checked at night, even with the car port light on it seemed they weren't there. I guess I ordered a part I didn't need.
It gets better, they still haven't charged my credit card, even though I've received the part and they've sent an invoice marked as "paid". I think I may have lucked off on this one. I might be inclined to tell the company they screwed up under normal circumstances, but, as it is, they cheated me by sending an obsolete part that I couldn't return. I think we're even.
Just because I'm lucky doesn't mean you will be! Don't order the part yourself, fight your dealer instead if need be.
Picked my car up Friday, roof looks better than the first one, it's much tighter and goes up and down really easily. They did an awesome job. I am lucky I live a mile and ahalf from a great dealer.

Does it have the new plastic caps like the one on my right side?

If that's the case, I may use your dealer for mine. I haven't taken mine to my dealer in Alexandria for this yet, but they screwed up my first oil change and I haven't gone back.
Which dealership do you go through and how long was te turn around time?
Yes it has the new plastic caps, both sides. I dropped it off on Tueday morning it was done Wednesday afternoon. They have a rental car place on site as well, I assume you get a free rental car, didn't ask for one. Anyone interested send me a PM and I will send you the service writers name and direct number. When they were done with my car they kept it inside in the service lane for 2 days so no one would mess with it. These guys are great. By the way service department is open Saturday and Sunday.

I got my Sky back yesterday. It took them a bit longer, but I also got some other stuff done (i.e. there was no paint under the factory installed spoiler (!)). Anyway, it does seem to fit tighter. I also have the black tabs.
I hope this is a fix that works!

Mine (07 GXP) goes in for a complete replacemnet on the 3d. Dealer has been first rate so far. Told me he had a battle with GM over replacing a whole unit rather than ordering it in pieces. We'll see...

Nylon, easy to cut (hacksaw), easy to shape (grinder or course file), easy to smooth
(cratex wheel or sandpaper). Works beautifully. I'll probably tweak it a bit since this the
first attempt. Nylon is very slippery, flexable & strong <perfect>. All it needed was a slightly longer screw & a.washer underneath to screw it firmly to the metal yet rest on top of the rubber. Plus I trimmed back the leading edge of the rubber so it wouldn't try to pinch the fabric. If the nylon piece is much longer or taller it binds with metal on the other half of the window frame when closed together(top up).
Heh Spider, how is this fix holding up? I am considering doing the same thing and eliminate going thru all the BS at the dealer... Metal is starting to poke thru but no damage to underside of top yet..
