Is the wind noise that comes from the area behind the driver's left ear and passenger's right ear common to all Solstice's? We took a 200 mile drive yesterday and have to say this noise is a little excessive (even by convertible standards - we've had 5 different Verts). I've heard this noise described by others as "a rattlesnake", "tearing paper", etc.
I'm just wondering if this sound occurs on all of the Solstices, or if some never had it, or if some have had it fixed?

It has been discussed in this forum that GM will be providing a fix on this issue.
I've only heard the rattlesnake in my car on one occassion. For me it is intermittent. Couldn't locate the source.

The noise in my car is your basic wind whistle through a bad window seal. But after looking at how the top seals - I don't think it is the window seal. I think the noise is coming from the seal between the canvas top and the frame, right near the trailing edge of the side windows.
Since the canvas has to be able to move independant of the frame while folding - I'm not sure what can be done? Increase the tension in the canvas or create some sort of positive seal (magnetic or zip-lock type seal).
Given that this is a convertible, I'm afraid this may be an inheirent short-coming in the tops design. If that's the case - has anyone ever tried the noise-canceling headphones (Bose?) in a convertible? Might be a wise investment for long-distance cruising.

Here is the problem the pin is hitting against a metal tab that is supposed to have velcro on it. The top of the tab is shiny from wear.. and from rubbing.
Here is the velcro that is pulled away and you can see the shiny top of the tab. If you push down on the center of the top the pin drops behind the tab.
And on the other side the velcro is completely gone.

Don't know for certain, but I think you might find that wearing earphones while driving might be iliegal in some states - interference with ability to hear emergency vehicles and such?
Yes-wind noise from both sides. Never owned a convertible before so I don't know if this is normal or not. Also, having problems putting top up and down. It seems to lock up on the passenger side and won't move smoothly up or down.
Got to say that the wind noise that is present on both sides of the car where the window meets the roof is a bit much at speeds over 50. If it is making that noise from wind alone it would mean that the water would come in as well when driving in the rain. Not a thought that I need in my head while driving.
If this car was available for test rides and that noise was there, I most likely would have passed the car over. Each machine has its issues but 'verts have been around for long enough that this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
Somewhere here there is talk about GM coming up with a new seal. Will wait and see.

I agree with you. I think the Solstice is quieter at 50+MPH with the top down and the windows up than with the top up. In looking at the design, I think the problem is with the buttress. The wind gets up underneath it and creates a lot of turbulence. I don't think there is a leak issue but if a weather stripping could be designed to seal on the deck lid all the way around the buttress, I think the wind noise would stop.

I had to drive with the top up on the hiway the other day, and later I noticed that there was a miss alignment on the trailing edge of one buttress, which I did not know that the edge is velcroed together and the edge looked like there was 2 edges on one buttress. I took them apart and realigned them. I can only figure that the heavy winds that day and driving fast took them apart.
