Advice for door speakers on non-monsoon

I'm looking to replace the front speakers on my non-monsoon car.
Will I have to buy a componet speaker or can I just buy a 2 way ,2 OHM,
6.5" speaker? If I have to buy a componet speaker where do I mount
the crossover for them? I would prefer to just replace the speaker in the
door and be done. I don't have much experience with sound systems, but
I have added a factory sub and an amp per a post that was on the forum.
It was very helpfull so I figure I ask about the door speakers. If I have
to go the componet speakers does anyone have any pictures on mounting
the crossovers?

Careful, the non-nonsoon speakers may be smaller than the monsoon ones. Someone had suggested they were only 5-inchers, but no-one (AFAIK) has verified this. It's certainly the case that the speaker+doormount part numbers are different for monsoon to non-monsoon.

With respect to the other part of your question... the headunit has different sets of wires for the tweeter and midrange/woofer so (presumably) already takes care of the frequency split. OTOH, it may just give a full-range signal to both! But if you DO keep the crossovers and if you mount the component tweeters in the factory positions on the A-pillars, it's gonna be a pain to wire them from the crossovers.

Sorry.

Speakers

I replaced my stock non-monsoon with 6.5" Alpines, 4 ohm. They work great, swapped right out. I used 4" Pioneers on the back , they were a little large for the enclosure so I cable tied them (very tightly) in place on the existing bracket, again they work great. I also added a JVC self amplified sub which mounted on top of the plastic behind the passenger seat, tucked right in.

My friend has a Redline with a Monsoon, can't tell the difference soundwise. Of course I bought my car used so no choice in the systems otherwise I would go with the Monsoon. Still some debate about weather the stocks are 4 ohm or 2 ohm on the stock system, no clear answer. Just turn it up a bit more if need be, reality is there isn't much load on this system with these little speakers.

our door speakers are whats going to provide the main sound to your car. My advice is that you go with the highest quality speaker that you can afford.

MadMod has a point but the price of the speaker set isn't a good guide to the quality. Understand some of the technical specs involved and look around, the price sometimes is just a marketing ploy, quality and high price are not always equivalent.

Makes me think of a piece 60 Minutes did on two buck Chuck wine from California and $150 a bottle "fine" wine , they tested both with a grouping of $10 wines at the New York Culinary Institute. Nobody could tell the difference and the $2 bottle of wine was picked 4 out 10 times as the top pick, the rest were medium priced wines, not a single chef picked the $150 bottle as a top pick after taste tests. Then again try talking to a women who pays $1000 for a purse on the justification for that lol

Tasta of wine and quality of a component set are two different things. I know you weren't directly comparing them

I'm with Madmods. A $60 component kit will sound way crappier than a $150 kit, and likewise for a $200, $300, and hell, even a $1000 Hybrid Audio or $1500 DLS 3 way kit. It's all in what you really want to do in the long run. If you think, even for a millisecond that you're gonna want to upgrade to an aftermarket 4 channel amp (I'd recommend it with our convertables), then you'll want to get a good quality speaker that can handle the extra watts an amp will give them. If not, then I'd say a good $100 comp set will do you just fine, but if you're going to amplify them, start with the $180's and up.

Another thing to consider, is in our soft-tops, you're never going to reach optimum sound quality, so IF you're considering purchasing a $500 kit or more, think twice, cause if you put them in say a Solstice Coupe, they'd blow you away at how much better they sound with a hardtop on. With that said, just buy the $1000 DLS or Hyrbid kit and chuck a hardtop on while you're at it!
My 2 cents!
