I sure you wouldn't like my choice of Misic. I'm and old Fart. One Cd is all 50's and teh other all 60's music, but the nice thing about MP3, is you can put 500 of your favorite songs on each CD! !!

Old fart here also. Do you get the idea that the 195 upgraded head has more power(is it rated in any accompanying material?) than the stock one that it replaces? Wondering if it now just needs base and if the sound is adequate? any help would be cool. Thanks

This stereo has six speeakers. There are 2 tweeters on the front pillars, two front Midrange in the doors and two rears just behind your heads. I have not heard teh Monsoon system. But I will say that this stereo does not compare to my BOSE in the envoy. Of course the BOSE was a much more expensive setup. I am hoping that Adding a Woofer would fix it, But can't say for sure. I looked in the service Manual, and saw that the Monsoon adds a Woofer behind the passenger seat. I have never seen one, but would like to see IF I can add one like it.

Taste in sound is WAY too subjective from person to person.

I have the base and I'm happy with it. You can't really hear it clear as day when the top is down at speed, but it's a damn roadster... not a rolling sound studio. I wouldn't mind it being better, but I wanted a bargain performance car... not an expensive concert-on-wheels kind of car. I prefer the cars sounds over music anyway, as any true enthusiast would.

On another note, I heard Nix Sol's Monsoon... very loud! Way too 'hood'-ish for me.

I did a lttle poking around today at the Texas meet n greet, and the sub looks no bigger than an 8". I couldn't see the amp without dismantling things. My rough measurements for the deck were 8" by 4 6/8". Those aren't exact since I also had a 9" diagonal. If you know your math you'll know that doesn't add up. Anyway, a standard Double DIN with a 4 inch opening should fit with the need of a kit to fill up the extra space. I wont know the depth of the deck until I have my own to play around with. Hopefully I'll have some good photos up by Christmas.

I'm glad to hear your feedback as I got the $195 stereo upgrade. I just couldn't justify an additional $1000 for Monsoon and 6 disc changer. Especially since you do the MP3 thing. 1000 songs is plenty for me. Unfortunately, I didn't think of doing the Monsoon package with the 195 option... don't know why. I suppose I would be better off spending that $300 on some music!

Was in the high 50's and sunny today. Had teh top down and decided to try and answer the questions about Output od this radio. I put "Take 5" on teh MP3 CD, and set the EQ for JAZZ, then cranked it up. It would go up to 3/4 volume on the sliding bar, before I heard any Distortion. That was way too loud for my taste when riding around at city speeds. I didn't try it at 70 MPH. The sound was pretty solid up to that valumn, But As I said earlier, I would like to have a woofer with it.

Great insight - very descriptive. I have a hard time sorting out who has the same "value criteria" as I do... Some guys want the super loud, thumping base stereo and almost no one makes a stock stereo good enough. Others want super fast, so they get all of the performance mods they can. And the spectrum inbetween in huge. Different strokes for different folks.... My in-laws think their Miata is FAST . I think you and I may have similar stereo qualifications. I feel like I'm already spending more for a car than I really "should". I hate to spend even more on mods. IMHO.

Thanks again.
