i build and sell custom sub boxes on ebay. I found a pontiac solstice driver who is willing to let me use his car thursday to get a box built. I really can't cut into the car or do any fabrication to the interior panels (behind the seats and whatnot). does anyone have any idea of a good location to build a custom sub box for the car. I like to build boxes that flow with the car appear to be oem but lack of space in the solstice makes it very difficult. If you have any enclosure ideas please let me know.

That isn't going to happen. Only way to do it, is to cut into the plastic. Other then that you can just put a dinky sub back into the moonson sound system box.

I'm pretty sure that you could replace the factory 8" AC Delco sub with a 10" aftermarket. You'd have to remove the factory enclosure and custom fabricate a glass one.
Subs need to be in the trunk to get that FUUTS FUUTS FUUTS from the trunk lid. But thats old skool. Speakers go on the outside now so you can piss everyone off even more!

In that case, get a SOLO Street Race Exhaust to remove the muffler, cut a hole in the trunk floor, and fasion a custom enclosure there. (Maybe I'll just shove the JL Audio 13W7 from my Explorer in that spot.)
That way, you can hide both amps behind the seats.
Oh, and dont forget to use some sound deadener on throughout the trunk including the lid. Either Dynamat or the slightly-better, much-cheaper Second Skin.
It can be done and it will. Thanks for your alls help..... there is room between the gas tank and the tail lights to put a box capable of holding a 12" sub.. There is room behind the passanger seat and the drivers seat to put a box.... how many, if any, inches would you "drivers" be willing to lose (as in scoot your seat forward from the far most back position)? considering you will still be able to recline the seat back all the way. I really want to make this custom box happen. check out my website www.conceptenclosures.com. Thanks
Do you use any software to model the alignment once you get an idea of the final internal box enclosure volume? Or do you just use the manufacturer recommendations?

I can't afford to move my seat up at all.. but even if I did.. my seat doesn't seem to recline. Anybody else want to chime in on this. My seat either leans forward, or straight vertical, never have I been able to get the top to slant towards the trunk.
I think with our car, if someone is going to manufacture a subwoofer box, you're going to have to have the customer do some modifying to fit it in there car. I highly doubt that most people will be willing to give up what little space there is in the cabin. My suggestion: make a sub box that bolt were the factory box goes; different dimensions of course, and make it available with sub size mounting options (1-10" square hole, 1-12" square hole, 1-10" round, 1-12" round, possible 2-10" rounds) and include instructions of where to cut, maybe even provide a bezel to cover up the cut marks when complete. I'd slam it behind the passenger seat, and call it good. People that want subs will have to realize that without heavy modification, this is the best, cheapest, and only way to get subs in our cars. YES, it can be done differently, but would take time, money, and HANDS-ON modification.
Also, I looked at your site, how does that Mitsubishi Spyder box sounds? Because it's a detached truck, with the top folding down in front of it....
I agree teh trunk is no place for subs or amp in this car. There isn't enough room for things as it is. Behind the pass seat with minor plastic cutting is the way to go. The rear panel is quite easy to remove. I would also like to see different configurations avail round vs square, 2 x 8" subs vs 1 x 10" or 1 x 12" (volume permitting). I would be quite interested in your product as I am considering getting a factory sub box and giving it to my stereo installer to customize. I would like a 12" sub behind the pass seat without loosing much seat space. Amps will be hidden behind the drivers seat. Trunk will be used to cary as much stuff as I can fit (which isn't much)

I have a 10 inch sub in mine...the one I used only was 3 inch deep and it made a big diffrence.....used all the stock parts and had to cut the opening in the stock chamber a little....seal9
I did it. Turned out pretty well. the seat has to be scooted 4" from the far most back position. it can then be reclined back using a wheel on the side. there is 4-1/2" of mounting depth in the box and it can hold 10" or 12" subs. fits behind the passanger seat and the drivers seat the same. The driver of this car is 5'10" and had no problem at all with the box behind his seat. let me know what you think.

No Offense, but I wouldn't buy that, I was expecting something a little more custom. I could have made that in a weekend and I don't have the proper tools or workspace.
As for the 5'10" driver, he must have short legs or likes the wheel bouncing off of his bent legs. I'm 5'7" and have my seat 2 clicks forward and reclined all the way back. I like being as far away from the stearing wheel as possible.
Also, have the 5'10" driver sit in the passenger seat for about an hour. There is limited legroom on that side due to the fusebax on the firewall. I've sat in a friend's Solstice for a few while he was driving. I had the seat all the way back and it was tight for me.
Not to mention that they would be really easy to pilfer. I leave my top down on most good weather days. It would be nothin' for someone to move the seat forward and then grab & go.
I hate to sound like I'm blasting you. I'm not, really. I'm just not sold on the idea...
Just looks like a nice box, but there really isn't anything custom to it. Maybe if the box was done in fiberglass and not carpet? Give it a different look?
But I'm not sold on the idea right now.
Keep up the good work.

After viewing customboxman's current sub woofer box line I was not surprised by the first offering. Possibly he can come up with an alternative solution. Given the size of the Solstice you have to get away from boxes and have to go with fiberglass that can be formed to the contours of the back wall in order to get the required enclosure volume you need for the specific sub.
Check out my post in the Mods-Audio & etc. about how some custom installers came up with their solution for installing two 10" subs and you lose ZERO seat travel. Posted the link below. Sure it will cost more money, but you get what you pay for. The loss of 4" of seat travel and the looks of this box is not a very good solution in my mind--just not an integrated look.
