Driverside subwoofer ???

Has anyone added an extra sub to the drivers side...is it possible? My girl rides in the passenger seat and says the feeling is amazing, i would like that on my side too...
Any thoughts...comments?

The primary problem is that the "enclosure" for the subwoofer is a molded plastic piece, and takes up space between the plastic interior backing, and the frame just a few inches behind it. Since you have a subwoofer, you have the monsoon system, and that has the amplifier in the same location behind the driver seat. So that makes it a little harder.

Here is my solution that I want to try out sometime. There are these things called acoustic mass shakers. They started off in cinema theater, and home theater. But nowadays they make automotive applications of them as well.

Basically, instead of a solid heavy magnet secured to the frame/chassis of the speaker with the coiled electromagnetic portion on the cylindrical part behind the cone like a normal speaker, the coiled electromagnetic portion is secured, and the heavy magnet is thrown around. So instead of a sound generator, you get a physical/thumping/vibration generator due to throwing the mass of the speaker around.

You basically take one, or two of these mass shakers, and bolt them say to the frame of your seat, and wire them up like speakers. They only need about 40W rms, and because they aren't making sound, a cheap ass amp will more then suffice.

Tap the small speaker behind the driver seat for signal, run it into a small/cheap amp, power 1 or 2 of the mass shakers, and that's about it. Kinda like adding on a sub to a stock system.

Check it out:

Aurasound | Tactile "Bass Shakers"

I've been in a car with this setup. It feels like a 500W sub sitting in the seat. It almost feels home theater-like in the strong/effortless kinda way a strong home/cinema theater can. Couldn't believe that was what it was. The guy at the car audio shop sold me like a sucka as soon as I tried it out.

Yes...it's been done before...a few times. You won't find a prefabricated box anywhere...unless something new has popped up...but your best bet would be to either purchase a powered slim subwoofer setup, or fiberglass one behind there.

Plenty of people have put a sub on the drivers side. Even with a slim woofer the best bet is to cut into the frame to get the needed space/air for the box.

I didn't put one on the driver side but I did cut and put a bigger sub on the passenger side.

ok i'll try to help you out on this one as i have gotten subs on both sides of my car and they are amazing.. i've had this done for almost a year now so i'm sure there may be a better brand/ set of subs out now to use. to start in my car i have an alpine head unit dvd/cd/nav/ipod the works. all the door speakers are changed out with alpine components.. i'm pushing everything with and Alpine PDX-5 amp (best amp on market as of now) this amp is a 5 channel so i can push the doors and the subs with just one amp and it is tiny and produces no heat. ok as far as the subs what i did with mine was a custom fiberglass enclosure. first thing we did was take the seat out of the Sol just to give us more room to work. after that we pulled off the plastic back piece and put plastic all around the back where the metal is. we held it on with tape we also wraped the actual splash gaurd with the same plastic. we cut a small hole in the plastic splash guard where we knew the subs would be placed put the gaurd back on and pumped liquid fiberglass in untill it filled the entire area between the plastic splash guard and the actual metal of the trunk. we let it sit for about a day to make sure it was good and dry. after that we came back out took the plastic panel off again and slowly took out the now hardend fiberglass mold. from there we laid the fiberglass mold on the ground laid the plastic splashgaurd on top and marked out the holes for the subs. then we cut the splash guard and traced the holes on to the fiberglass mold. Then we cut holes in the mold so the speakers would fit in hollowed them out the the designated specs for the speakers and put a port in the mold so that we could run the wires to the speakers. after this we put the fiberglass mold back in the car and put the splash gaurd back on. then we put in 2 MA 10" subs powered by that PDX-5 amp. And it sounds amazing. everyone has given me compliments on the way it sounds. If you Live in the SoCal area i could set you up with the shop that did it for me... but just send me a pm if you have any questions i'll try to help out as much as i can..

however the only subs that i know of that will fit in such a small gap are the shallow mount MA 10"s, shallow mount Rocksfordfosgate P1's, and the new Pioneer shallow mounts may also fit but not 100% sure on that one... those are about your only options unless you want to cut into the metal that is behind the plastic splash guard.

I didn't cut any metal and I got a 12" infinity kappa in there...Mount Depth was 6"
Now on the driver side...you'd prolly have to cut the metal to get that deep...unless you don't have your seat all the way back, then you could put whatever you wanted....most people want the sub to sit flush, but if you want it loud without compromizing for performance, then you can mold it to compensate for the lack of mounting depth! Mine is almost touching the seat on the passenger side.

Yep I put two 6" Bazooka tubes, they JUST fit and man they can pump (one is powered, the other is a slave unit).

I have a thread around here with pictures so you can see.
