I've got a Garmin Nuvi 250w and was wondering if anyone has come up with an ingeneous way of mounting a unit in our cars.

Lower left corner of the windshield seems to be the most popular spot for most people.

Others have taken either plexiglass or glass cut to the size of one of the center air vents and stuck it on with double sided tape, allowing the suction cup mount to attach there.

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, lower left corner of the windshield was the logical choice for me as well. But I was concerned about booking down the road, top down, hitting a bump and my gps goes flying out the window. Maybe I just worry too much.

I put it in the upper left corner of the window. I covers much less room up there and still easy to see and hear. I run the cord down and under the turn-signal lever and over the steering wheel housing near the dash.

About 4,000 miles this way with no issues and it has not come loose yet. Also if I need to hit a button to change the view on the unit it is a shorter reach for me.

Another possible option. I located a powered mount for my TomTom XL and secured it over that aggravating passenger seatbelt light with double sided tape. The power line is hardwired to supply power when the car is turned on. The unit is powered by simply placing it in the mount. Pictures below.

Mount with power source

TomTom mounted

View from drivers seat

All buttons and vents are accessible and the GPS unit is in a perfect position for viewing while driving. Sorry for the camera flash distortion in the pics.

I put the round plastic disc that came with my Garmin over the passenger air vent on the dash (vent in the closed position) It fits perfectly. My wife doesn't like the air blowing on her face anyways. The suction cup then positions my Garmin right at the center of my dash above my radio. I love it. If I ever want to remove it, I just have to pull the double-stick tape off of the closed vent.

Another option is to have it mounted with Velcro or two-sided tape over the airbag indicator light to the right of the instrument cluster, with the little antenna flipped up so it just lays on the the top of the dashboard and the main screen portion of the GPS unit is against the vertical part of the dash.

Google Pro Clip USA and once in their site find the mount for the Solstice. Two part system with unique mounting base for the specific vehicle, then a separate holding devise for various GPS, iPod, cell phones, etc. More of a clean install instead of some of the Rube Goldberg mounting methods I have seen.

I have a TomTom and I use a snap tape from 3M just because I'm concern that if the GPS support is visible on the dashboard, someone might try to get into the car to search and steel the unit (probably damaging the top also in the process).

Something to think about depending where you might leave your car.

I used the supplied disk and placed it just to the left of the passenger airbag and the right of the centerline about mid-way up. It isn't too conspicuous without the Nuvi mounted and is in an excellent location when it is.

Use the suction cup and stick her to the windshield in safe place.

Since I don't use my gps often I mount it to my windshield using the suction cup.I place it directly behind my rear view mirror and it is located about an inch below my mirror. It is actually not in my line of vision either. My gps has a screen about 3' by 3"

I really appreciate everyone's input on this. All of the options are great, I just have to figure out which one works best for me. I'm still a little paranoid mounting it in the lower left corner of the windshield (although I like this location best). I'm kind of leaning towards jeff_b_wilson's idea of mounting the disk that came with it in the mentioned location.
