Hello
I have the factory radio and if I push the cat button the XM flashes for a second. How can I get the XM to work in my car? I have an 06 with a single cd amd aux hook up.
Thanks.

Do you have the XM antenna on your trunk (little black box)?

The thread title uses the term "Factory XM", your owner registry says "XM add on".

The "XM add on" makes sense, as your car was not built with factory XM radio.

What more do you know about the system and your subscription status?

Small dealer,
This car came with an add on xm system.I would rather have the in dash unit be my xm radio instead of the handheld unit that came with the car. Can I unlock or activate the head unit with my tech 2 scan tool?
Thanks.

As Small Dealer stated ... your car did NOT come with factory XM - thus no XM antenna (black box on trunk deck) but would need an alternate XM antenna (aftermarket).

I would check with either the Dealer or a local Stereo shop as to what your options might be to make this work for you - if this is your choice.

a few things to keep in mind if you if you have an add on (like a RoadyXT for example) ... it will plug in thru your aux port on the front of the stock radio ... you do need to check your XM subscription status .... you will need an XM antenna ... it will not sound as good .... you will have to control XM channels from your add on and not from the stock radio ... only volume control from radio ... you would be much better off buying an aftermarket radio with XM capability IMO .... hope this helps.

Still need to determine if this is an operational issue, a subscription issue or both.

Is this used Solstice, just purchased by you?

If so then there is probably no active subscription. Several people have had luck calling XM and saying that they just purchased a "certified used" Solstice and getting a three month free trial activated. Of course this is for actual GM Certified Used cars with factory installed XM, but I think those that posted got it to work anyway. You would need the Radio ID number before calling. That can be obtained by tuning to Channel 0.

Do you have the owner's manual for the unit that is in the car?

If not, you should be able to go on line some where and download a PDF file of it. Figure out the brand and model and start searching. First at XM, then at the manufacturer site, then one of the XM fan web sites, finally do a Google/Yahoo/MSN search.

Try turning on the unit, turning to Channel 1 (which even those without a subscription will receive) and hitting the "AUX" button on the radio. See if that gets sound through. As mentioned by another, it my run through the auxiliary port and not the radio's XM circuit (which would be used for a factory install).

As an aftermarket insatll, there should be nothing that a Tech 2 can do.

Man, I appreciate everybodys help!! Maybe I'm confused. What I have is a handheld XM unit that came with my car.It has a magnetic antenna inside the trunk. This xm set up is not activivated. My radio head unit(factory) is xm capable.I would like to use the factory unit. What do I have to do to get it working?
My handheld unit is not plugged into the aux jack it is hard wired to the radio(I haven't removed the radio for inspection) The handheld unit is velcro'ed to my console. The wires go under my console and I assume to my radio head.I would like to remove this unit and use my factory radio. My car was purchased from a dealer but not a gm dealer.
Does this info help?
Thanks.

The antenna should be mounted outside the trunk. Make sure the antenna is plugged into the head unit. Obtain the XM radio ID and call 1-800-xmradio. ASK for the $77 year special. (some members have gotten a deal like that) You can test your signal by the bars on the xm display. You can listen to a preview on station 1

Leave your vehicle outside for 30-60 min to obtain yoour signal. Enjoy XM. It ROCKS!!

the radio is XM capable .... but if it did not come from the factory with XM installed you can't use the stock radio by itself ... you have to use the ad on or buy a different radio.

There are currently no factory accessory add on XM systems for the Solstice application, that would paly through the factory head.

Not sure there is any way to get the aftermarket unit you have to work through the factory head. Might tip toe through the audio mod section and see if anyone found away.

The easiest way to find out if your Radio System is “XM Ready” is to look for the XM Antenna on your trunk. Now you mentioned that there is no antenna on the trunk so my next question would be do you have the monsoon sound system? You can tell by if there is a speaker grill behind the passenger seat or is there another storage compartment like behind the driver seat?

Scenario #1: If you have the monsoon system you may be able to add the GM Factory XM unit (we have one if needed) that mounts in the trunk and add the Antenna. This would be the easiest solution to getting XM in this car.

Scenario #2: If you do not have the monsoon system then there your only option will be to either 1) hook up an external XM tuner and run it through the AUX input on the base radio, or 2) Install an aftermarket head unit with Satellite capabilities. Then look to the GM Roadster Web site because we are very close to releasing a Plug N’ Play 600watt Subwoofer Upgrade package for those who have the base stereo but want that added base…..

Hope this helps,
