JVC KD-NX5000 in Solstice dash - video

Morning,

Just wanted to show you the look and movement of the single din JVC KD-NX5000 I installed earlier this week.

You Tube description:
This is a head unit replacement in my 2008 Solstice GXP. This video is to show the movement of the head unit in the dash board. I tilt it twice because I didn't realize that once you are in tilt mode you have to exit tilt mode to get it to open.
-I like that background wallpaper too but there are 5 or 6 others to choose from.

and more info on cnet regarding the head unit
Linky

New video and better

Cool.

Is the face removable?

Your dash adapter looks different from mine, what brand is it?

I like this head unit. How does the navigation work? is it a touch screen for entering addresses?

Answers in the order they were asked.

Yup, the face plate is removable.
I've tossed the bag for the dash adapter thing.... sorry about that.

I haven't been able to use it yet though since there was a problem with the GMOS-LAN-04 cable I purchased. (It was an older model so it didn't have the VSS wiring, I'm waiting on a new one and will share what I think of it after I use it. )
However, looking at the GPS as is, without it working and only being able to look using zoom and move cursor on the maps, it's definitely not a Garmin or a Tom Tom! I will still need to update it to the latest maps (if they have them) and try out the three free months of traffic service.
Here are some of the features of the GPS.
# Navigation Features (from the mouth of sales people)
* Amazing 13 Million Points of Interest (13 million P.O.I.)
* 3 Language Voice (English, Spanish, French)
* Turn-By-Turn Voice Command
* NAVTEQ, industry leading navigation software technology
* GPS Antenna Included
* Pre-Installed Maps Include: Complete 50 United States of America, Canada and the US Virgin Islands
* 2D-3D View
* WAAS Capable GPS
* Super quick Navigation access as data is stored on a fast reading hard drive instead of a slower DVD/chip/CD like other navigation pieces
* 16GB dedicated to navigation means extremely detailed data and many more points of interest listed then even the best factory navigation units
* WAAS Capable GPS
* Built-In RDS-TMC Tuner (Traffic)(Subscription service fee required)

No touch screen but it's really easy to enter things in using the on-screen keyboard and the remote. You can do it from the head unit buttons too but the remote is easiest.

Bagpypr
Will do. I already have more dislikes then likes but since not everything is set up, GPS and all my new speakers, amp and woofer, I can't really say for sure if I like it as much as I thought I would!

I will get back with a review when I am done for sure!

To All

One HUGE problem with this head unit is the lack of USB input. To copy media to the head unit hard drive you need to burn the media to cd or dvd.... Total pain in the rear!!!

Quick update;

I got the correct GMOS-LAN-04 cable and the GPS now works correctly.

So far I like the GPS system. It's about as up to date as my Garmin is. The voice for the GPS will lower the volume of the music if it needs to tell you to turn. That can be turned off, turned louder or mute the music all together. Fully changeable. You can also choose 3 different map type views like the Garmin. There are a lot of POI's in it and you can add on the fly.

No need to put a GPS cd or deviate from listening to music off of any input (Hard drive, cd, dvd, ipod). It will not interrupt your phone conversations over Blue Tooth either.
It will also record your track and where you have driven shows up as dashes, dots or whatever you like so you can always know where you have been in case you get lost driving where there are roads or no roads.

It's easy to navigate the menus using the remote or the head unit. Touch screen is nice but sometimes overrated. I find myself in the same pickle using the remote that I did with the Garmin touch screen, the "Ooops" moments when choosing the wrong letter when you spell something is just as aggravating using the remote.

I don't think I will be using my Garmin anymore and that will free up loads of space in my car!
