My Pioneer AVIC D-3 Install

My GXP doesn't have Onstar and I have the Monsoon 6 CD changer. The install was assisted by my son Dark Tech. It would've taken much longer with out his help. Total time for install was 9 hours. Partly due to routing and finding good locations for components.

Components I purchased:
  1. Pioneer AVIC-D3 In-Dash GPS Navigation System with DVD Player
  2. Pioneer Car CDI200 iPod Direct Cable for iBus Headunits
  3. BOYO VTL420 Rear View Camera
  4. Pioneer Car CDBTB200 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter
  5. Pioneer Car CDR55 Remote for Select Pioneer Mobile Units
  6. PAC SWIPS Universal Steering Wheel Control
  7. Metra - 95-3302 (Double din dash install kit)
  8. Metra - 40-cr10 (Antenna adapter)
  9. PAC C2R-GM11 GM Radio Integration Adapter
For sale - PM me if you are interested
  • GMOS-LAN-04 GM Radio Integration Adapter with Onstar.
I spend a good deal of time reading the thread from Morfious and reading the AVIC411 forums. Thanks for your pioneering of the AVIC-D3 install

Disassembly - in the order I performed them
  • Chrome rings around gauges
  • Guage tunnel
  • Chrome ring around shifter
  • Center dash grip cover, then the handle
  • Wrap around dash panel - completely disconnected and set aside.
  • Center console
  • Passenger door foot panel
  • Right and left rear speaker panels
  • Panel w/waterfall behind the seats
  • Left brake light (I'll explaing this further down)
  • License plate light

I didn't finish due to having the wrong GM interface cable.

Here a photo of all the parts.

Power and grounds
I ran a heavier guage wire for both and I will connect as needed for other components to that wire. Since I already had identified in my GENK mirror install that fuse 18 in the passenger footwell was a key (acc) switched power source, I wire tapped it and pulled a wire to radio opening. On the center console, there is a ground stud, I installed a ground wire and ran that to the radio opening.

Location of ground stud

I fished a wire from the license plate light to the removed brake light area and pulled the backup camera wires through. With the trunk lid open, I pulled back the carpet and routed the wires into the trunk through the rubber flap (allows the trunk to vent when you close the lid). I ran the wire up to the back of the seat area and zip tied it to an existing harness that went to the center console. see pics

Wire for backup camera, the square yellow on the side is approximately where the trunk vent opening is under the left brake light.

Wire for backup camera in trunk

Wires routed behind seat panel, note that I temporarily placed the GPS antenna on the metal (it has a magnetic bottom) until the back panel is re-installed

Both of these were routed to the back of the radio opening.

Camera installed

I installed the PAC SWI-PS cable

I also routed the IPOD interface cable to the glove box.

Go-N Def, here since you missed the parts being pulled out, I'm driving the car without them for several days while I install the system

4-29 Since I gon't have Onstar, there is space available here for the Bluetooth module and routed the mic around the back of the seat, under the "Solstice" trim to the A-Pillar and secured it with sticky velcro.

Work table next to car, still have a few bundles of wires left to install

Next we found the green wire in the passenger foot well area underneath the door frame "Solstice" There are 3 green wires there. two identical light green and the reverse light wire was one of the light green. We probed both and found the one that lit the test light when I placed the car in reverse.

We then installed the sticky magnetic plate behind the waterfall on the flat section here. you MUST use this side as there is a box attached to back wall that will be above your GPS antenna if you don't. You can see this box on the next photo

re-installed the back panel, making sure to take the GPS off the metal and placing it on the plate

I followed this instruction from Morfious and AVIC411 forum http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/493305-post27.html

I take no responsibility for what you do with this information and it may be illegal to do in your state. I am just passing on information that I have found.

Bypass for this unit is quite easy. First you have to ground the parking brake wire. This will make the D3 think that you have your parking brake on at all times. I used the ground wire in the wiring harness.

Second locate the Yellow wire with a black stripe in the Avic Harness. It's on the plug with all the red and white stereo plugs. If you look at the white plastic plug you will notice an empty slot right above this wire. Using a small screwdriver pry up the plastic plug and pull out the wire. Replace it into the hole directly above. Ground this wire as well with the parking brake wire. Hook everything up and hit reset on the front of the unit. You are now bypassed. Here is a picture from the AVIC 411 forums for clarity.

This is the Pioneer harness connected with the PAC C2R-GM11 adapter. I took the yellow wire and the light green parking brake wire and soldered it to the ground wire. You can see this in the center of the photo above the yellow tag

In another note: I had already hooked up the PAC SWI-PS adapter which has you jump the green wire to the blue wire on back of the stock GM plug in the dash. Once I got the new GM11 adapter, their instructions said to connect the their green wires to the PAC SWI-PS green wire. So I called tech support to verify if I still needed to connect to the blue wire on the stock, they said no. Just between the two green wires between the adapters.

Once I had all the cables plugged into the radio, I turned everything on and tested each component. I had an issue where the radio was on as soon as I plugged it in. The PAC SWI-PS instructions said in the note to connect the pin#14 to ACC on the stock GM connector in the dash. This some how with the new C2r-GM11 adapter applied power all the time to the radio. I disconnected this wire and the radio works via key and ACC+ now.

This is a photo of the radio installed. The hole above the radio is where I have the two adapters. PAC SWI-PS and C2R-GM11. I also used that hole to stick my hand to help guide the wires back into the very tight area behind the radio.

IMPORTANT To set up the radio the navigation CD has to be inserted. Once you follow the prompts, the back button is like the ok. Then hit the reset pin on the top left of the radio next to the CD eject. This will ensure the yellow wire bypass been accepted.

I want one next. I just hope I can convince Nancy that all that stuff just costs 100 bucks.

Joe, we will get mine soon but we have to be a little sneaky. Gosh I hope she does not read this.

Chuck

Oops, Hi Hon, I am not doing anything, just typing out the grocery list for ya.

Gotta go now

I love my sound system, and somewhat happy with the D-3, but the Nav sucks and no longer use that portion of the unit. Use a separate Garmin Nuvi--far better navigator.

Not sure where you are installing the amp but to me the only location is behind the drivers seat and not in the trunk. The trunk is already too small and putting an amp in a hot box is not the best location. Behind the drivers seat allow for ventilation and does not take up precious trunk space.

You obviously have no experience of what happens when you marry an Irish woman.

Temper, nah!

I am the boss, I just decide to ask her.

Anyway this thread is about Joe, his radio and my trying to wheedle him into doing mine.

Just kidding, Joe loves me. Right Joe? Joe? Ok, no answer. Go-N-Def and I are going to spoon.
