I am looking into replacing the factory speakers and was looking at the Alpine 2.150 Amp. Is this capable of powering all speakers not including the sub or would I need to go to the 4.100? I bought Polk db6501 component speakers for the tweeters and door speakers. Looking at Infinity for the 3.5" rears. Just trying to figure out what amp I need for them to sound good.
You can go 4" on the rear. The rears are pretty worthless as they are so small and not really in a great location, plus the convertible etc. I don't have my system in yet, but I went with the Alpine 4x150 to power the front speakers and my sub. The rear speakers, I am going to power off my head unit. I did the AvicD3 and it sends 17 watts, so that should be OK for the rears.
For best results I would use a separate amp for the components and subwoofer. You can put one behind the driver side and one in the trunk or if they'll fit, both behind the driver's seat.
This of course is only a suggestion and if you go that route, go with a two channel amp for the components (left and right side) and one channel amp for the sub.
Check out Total Mobil Power, their a JL Audio company. They have a 60wX4 for a little over $200. You could power your components and a sub off of this amp. JL also has 70Wx4 for $300 something or 75Wx4 for $529.
As already stated, forget the two rear speakers--they add nothing to the sound. Too small and will not be able to keep up with amplified front speakers and sub. They will just distort, then you have to adjust the fade control to full front stage--speaking from experience.
You do not need two amps--just the Alpine 4.150. 150 watts RMS per channel up front and bridge the rear two channels for 300 watts RMS for your sub. More than you need and possibly too much power. You do not want to have put an amp in the trunk. Just the one small foot print Alpine behind the driver seat works great and does not tie up valuable space in the trunk. Better ventilation as well.

Russims,
How did you manage the behind-seat-mount for the amp, since the firewall under the trim is anything but flat? Your setup looks very professional. I currently have a JL e430 (driving the tweeters, door, and rear speakers) and a Backfire 230 Watt (driving the sub) mounted in the trunk. I live in Tx and am already having overheating problems with the amps. I have an aviation instrument panel blower set to hook up to provide ventilation, but I am not sure that will be enough and would like to regain my lost trunk space. I have a spare JBL GTO 755.6II amp that would look good behind the driver's seat, but its a pretty large amp and I am hesitant to start cutting on my trim without a firm game plan.

I don't remember exactly. Heck, I have forgotten what I was responding to twice since I started the response. But I believe that Martin, at the GM Roadster Club has provided that information on one of the forums before. I believe that it is 3-4".

If you do want to power the rears just know that if you go with the two channel amp you will be able to adjust left and right but not front to back. The ones behind the door are junk though so it doesn't really matter what you do with them.

Jeff,
Acctually there is about 4 inch's towards the bottom in-between the outer panel and the iner-firewall and it tapers off towards the top. This is where the factory monsoon amp is installed and where I installed my CarPC unit. The unit fit perfectly and it run's the entire Info-media System in the car!
