Have all the bugs worked themselves out with PAL?

I am interested, but I do have XM radio and do plan on continuing my service with them.

Also, does the cable just run from behind the stereo to the glove box?

Is this easy to install?

Unfortunately all the bugs have not been worked out just yet. I still have a PAL system installed in my car. And acccording to Pontiac as of just a week ago, they are still working on it. According to them its a software issue that needs to be worked with not just by GM but by XM as well and thats part of the reason they haven't resolved the issue.

I have the PAL w/o XM and it works just fine. Its pretty easy to install, you have to remove the stereo and plug the PAL harness into the back of the stereo and then the factory harness into the PAL harness. The PAL harness then runs to a module that you mount on top of the ventalation contol box. From the module you run a short cable into the glove box that attaches to the Ipod. Like I said, I dont have XM so I cant vouch for how well the PAL works with XM but as I understand it that is where the problems lie. The only problem I ran into was that the temp door lost its calibration and it took about of week of messing with the temp knod for it to recalibrate. When the calibration was off it would blow full hot on any setting except all the way to the left and then it was full cold. I tried to recalibrate it w/ my Tech2 but couldnt find a setting for it.

As a new owner, I've got XM for three months, but don't plan on continuing the subscription. Given that, what exactly are the problems, and should I wait until my XM trial expires?

Does the PAL work with the iPhone? And if it does, the glove box probably isn't the best place to keep it. It would be great if it integrated with the OnStar system and gave you hands-free voice calls. Is that possible?

How did you recalibrate the AC knob? Mine is doing the same thing!

The next generation of the GM radios will have bluetooth functionality. I'm still trying to determine if we can add these radios to our cars... (ie are the backwards compatible). I've got the question floating around the GM radio group right now and waiting on an answer.

The Bluetooth functionality will be accessed via the OnStar Module, not the radio. Also requires steering wheel radio controls.

This might do the trick.

Subject: HVAC Improper Mode/Temperature Operation
Models: 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described.

Condition/Concern:
If you encounter a Solstice/Sky HVAC system that has erratic operation of the Mode door or the Temperature door, you may need to Re-synchronize the HVAC system.

Recommendation/Instructions:
To Re-synchronize the HVAC you will need to follow the below steps.

1) Turn the key to the run position (Engine NOT running)

2) Turn the first HVAC knob (Temperature dial) all the way to the right

3) Turn the second HVAC knob (Blower dial) all the way to the right

4) Turn the third HVAC knob (Mode position) all the way to the LEFT

5) Now push in on the first knob (temp dial) and the third knob (Mode) at the same time and hold down until the LED's start to flash.

You will notice the HVAC system will now begin to run through all the modes and Re-synchronize both Temperature and Mode door.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Even if the PAL worked correctly with XM my problem would be what good would PAL be given the inability to view the screen very well with a bright sunny sky and the top down. Before I switched to an aftermarket head unit it was impossible or near impossible to view the radio screen in bright So Cal sunlight.

Possibly GM has corrected this issue with the '08 model black tie radio but it is sure was a real problem with my '07 model.
