I finally had my PAL unit installed over the weekend however I'm having a couple issues with it. When I plug it in it says "charging is not supported on this device" and will not charge the iPod. Also I'm missing the soft-keys on the radio for it. Instead of showing the soft-keys that are in the manual it shows me the FM preset radio stations instead, so I have no way of doing any of the features. All I can do is press next song and previous song and that's all.
I do not have the GM factory XM and I also do not have the newest PAL version. They said they would not replace it under warranty until there were issues with the older one. I recall most of the issues with the older one related to XM though which I do not have.
Did they mess up the tech 2 programming or something? It seems odd I'm completely missing the soft-keys.

What type of iPod do you have? The newest iPods only support charging via the USB pins and not firewire. I know this because I upgraded from an iPhone to an iPhone 3g and all of the sudden my chargers didn't work.

That's pure BS, another example of why I hate Apple so much... Yeah I have a new 16gb 4th gen Nano. I HATE Apple and the only reason I got an iPod was to use it in my car with the PAL.
I decided to get the 4th gen Nano because the GM tech bulletin specifically stated the PAL worked with "iPod Nano (4th gen.)" and made no mention about limited compatibility...

Ok the CAT button gave me all the menus w00t! This system is kind of confusing, you really have to read the entire manual to understand things, it's not intuitive at all.
I guess I'll be ordering an adapter sometime soon, I plan on keeping the iPod in the car all the time which is why I wanted the charging ability.

I ordered the griffin charge converter, Amazon has it for $22 plus free shipping for Prime members. Hopefully it works correctly. The Scosch one has issues with a couple different radios.

I am glad to learn this, I just bought a 30 gb iPod 5 video on woot yesterday to put in the car, I figured an older one might work better and $99 was a good deal. We shall see soon enough, the PAL will end up costing more than the iPod

You should be OK. I use the same iPod w/PAL without any problems. I only unplug it from the car to sync it, and I only have done that a few times.

So far the only items affected are the Nano 4th gen, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 2nd gen (based off iPhone 3G).

Ok I bought the Griffin power converter and it works flawlessly.
Of note, has anyone had issues with their iPod not turning off when the car is shut down. I've had it happen once and it kept playing for 30 minutes while I was getting my hair cut.

Well I had gone a week of it shutting off correctly when I turned the car off with no issues till today. Well I have an audio book on the iPod that is 3 files that are 515 minutes long each. When I got back to the car it had kept playing for 3 hours into the book I was on. Is there any way to FF/RW faster than the jog nob, it would take me all day to rewind 3 hours of time that way!

I finally got mine installed over the last couple of days. I paid $170 out the door. I installed it myself, which was fairly easy, though the instructions weren't the best I've seen. The only hiccup I found was I had to take it to the dealer to program the PAL because I have XM, neither XM nor the PAL will function. That cost me $83 and a couple hours in the waiting room. The tech said they had a problem programming it, the instructions were wrong and they had to trick my 06 to think it was on 07. I bought a 2nd gen 4gb nano with a dead battery off craigslist for $50 so I could have an iPod in the car locked in the glovebox all the time. One thing you want to be aware of is the PAL will kill your iPod's battery pretty quickly. My girlfriend had a similar device installed in her Xterra and her nano battery died fairly quickly since it was being charged all the time. Also, the Li-ion batteries in the iPods do not do well with heat. The nano I bought had a horribly dead battery, it actually was bloated and pushing against the screen, and was making the PAL not recognize it. I just disassembled the nano and removed the battery, now the system works perfectly.
