Yeah I did mine at the dealer and it took around 2.5 - 3 hours. It was their firs PAL install, though I'm not sure why it took them so long specifically.

Everything works as advertised - EXCEPT - I can't toggle back to the XM band. The radio defaults to the IPOD XM1 band every time through the cycle. It's supposed to toggle to XM every other time through the full cycle (AM - FM - XM) (AM - FM - IPOD).

Sounds like the dealer didn't do the programming for XM. If the PAL does not know XM is in the vehicle it will not switch to it every other time. You might want to take it back and have them check the programming steps.

Time to install should be about 1 hour, maybe 1.5 hours for a technician that is familiar with the Soltice IP. It always takes longer for their first install of anything due to needing to read the instructions several times during the install.

We were some what limited on the HMI due to the radio software (which could not be changed). The steering wheel controls only do what the corresponding buttons on the radio do so again, very limited. Everyone has a different idea on how these types of things should work so we won't be able to please everyone but I hope that you all at least get to a point where you like more about it than you dislike.

Regards,
Greg

Greg - Thanks for the response. I have an appointment with the dealer and I'll bring along your comments. Other then the XM glitch (which I'm sure they will resolve), I am pleased with operation of the PAL.
BTW - installation time was 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I'm starting to get used to how it works. It's not as hard to navigate as I thought. I just have to learn NOT to move so fast through a playlist (I tend to get ahead of my radio ). I'll post some pictures of the PAL "working" in a day or two. Is there an ability for GM to "tweak" the softwear later on?(lets say someone figures that it would be better if this button did this rather that what it does now kinda thing...)

I just realized that holding the seek key for a moment moves to the next station when on XM where as quickly punching it moves through presets - to me this is really annoying because on other pontiacs they actually seek to the next station. Can you explain the general thinking behind the difference on the solstice? I guess I would have had it the other way around but then again I'm not much for programming presets. I guess if you're really big into presets then maybe the current function seems like the ideal.

...step 20 (see attachment)in the instructions say you are to "remove" pin "M" and do a splice to a wire in the connector...well they did that correctly,...BUT.... they then replaced the pin to the connector(the instructions did not say"do not reinstall" so they reinstalled it) This drove the tech 2 programming tool go crazy.(took them forever to figure out the problem) So if you buy the PAL I would suggest that you make a note of this.

here are 2 pictures to better explain what was wrong, If pin "M"s wire is still connected to the splice it needs to be cut (it is cut in my picture) If the wire is still connected the Tech 2 tool will not be able to program the PAL unit

Where do they jack in to do the Tech 2 programming? Back of the stereo unit? Asking because I'm curious if will need to have my dash apart when bringing it in to the dealer for the programming.

Hey Squirrel Boy, do you know anyone with an iPhone? Apple's recent update is supposed to allow the iPhone to work with car systems that were previously giving errors such as PAL. It would be cool if someone had access to an iPhone that has been updated to v1.0.1 to see if this is the case w/ PAL.

Really? Will that mess with the new BSR tune on GXPs? I doubt they come with ipod programming. It's too new.
