On may second my car will be going in to get a new head unit...

I was going to do it myself but I figure after I do the dynamat and speakers and amp I might not want to do other things like my under carriage lighting and tinting...

So much to do do little time...

Here is a preview

Interested. Will you be using all the functions listed? Bluetooth, XM, Nav, Backup camera?

Are the screens configurable like the AvIC D3 ? Guages? Photo screens?

Are you also installing an amp or using the GM Monsoon?

A guy has gotta ask right?

Going to keep the XM USB Aux 1 for sure... maybe 2... The Bluetooth audio and telephone... I have never been a fan of Ipods... (Personally) and the USB can use a 250Gig Hard drive if I really wanted to... Not sure on the screens... I know it has 5 presets I have not gone through them all

I will try to take a few pictures and I am leaving my cheap camera with the installer to get some more pics...

Going to go through the Monsoon for now but I am going to preamp out for my new amp... (Not purchased yet) I have the component Reference from Infinity and some Alpine 3.5's for the back I am also custom building 2 boxes for the trunk to support 2 more 8's (Cerwin-Vega)

The speakers are not going in until I get the Dynamat.... But I hope to have everthing done by the end of summer... Classic car shows are about to get really loud... Glad I have a Large list of 50's and 60's music Hahaha

But that 90's dance will never have sounded soooo good LOL

Quick question for you grey. On my 08 GXP - my onstar turn by turn will show basic nav information on my head unit. Will this unit be able to do the same thing? Also will i be able to use the onstar mic for my bluetooth mic?

Thanks in advance,

CAn this unit be controlled at all by the steering wheel buttons? I know there is one out there but can't remember which one it is. It is rather new this year is all I can remember. I lost the link when my PC crashed. No it wasn't VISTA

Nothing "Onstar" shows on the aftermarket head unit screens (from what I understand)
All voice stuff still works though.

No onstar so I could not tell you...

Got it installed but I need to take it back in... I am getting a Popping noise when I change functions and the volume is turned to zero... Not sure if it is the Monsoon amp or the stereo... Anyone else seen this issue?

Also I never knew the Sub got it's feed from the rear speakers... I had them install an amp for my new 100watt back 3.5" and Lost the sub... Oh well I was going to put 2 new Cerwin Vega's in anyway...

Will post pictures... Also to anyone out there with an after market head unit... I have all my chimes and dings... but I have no Turn signal clicking anymore... Anyone else having this issue ? I have the steering wheel module and the chime module...

chime module? as in gmos-lan03 or 04?
That's what you would need for the turn signal click. The head unit would need to be on to hear the turn signal too.
The click isn't that loud anyway. No biggie.

Could be different from HU to HU but I can only speak from the experience with my after market HU.

I will have to look at what model... And as for the Signal clicks... I have found myself doing the old fart habit of leaving my blinkers on because I can not hear them clicking.

No offense to old farts... I have seen many others do it too.

Hi. I installed the AVH4000 DVD 2 weeks ago. I love it! I seemed to have used some different parts than others for my 06. I used a GMCOL11 wiring harness that worked perfectly. Kept the factory amp from the monsoon and factory sub. It has lots of power, probably about 15% more than what the factory Monsoon and XM had. Here is what we did.

Replaced the factory XM unit in the passenger side of the trunk with the Pinoeer XM and added Pioneer Sirius tuner and receiver. All fit neatly behind the trunk liner very near the tail light on the passenger side. We used the factory XM antenna, ran a short tail and added the sirius antenna. From the Sirius unit we go to the other corner of the trunk to the Pioneer Bluetooth unit. The mike comes up the driver side up the door piller and discreetly next to the visor. We also ran the ipod connection, the usb connection and and av connection (for my ZenW) through the hump and have them drop down through the top inside the center console box (i dunno what else you call it). The Bluetooth audio is awesome and my cellphone connects for hands free as soon as i start the car. Last piece we added was the rearview camera. It is in a licence plate trim plate and works great. With help from here we tapped into the back up lights so it switches on when reverse is activated.

The crowning glory of this install was the ebrake bypass. Instead of putting a switch on the ebrake to limit video and some of the bt and setup functions while driving, we used the dash. Since I don't have OnStar there was a blank under neather the foglight switch in my dash. I ordered a hazzard swith from the dealership for $50 and wired it as the bypass switch. Looks great except for the curious fact that there are 2 hazzard switched in the car. I retained all my chimes and everything looks like it was meant to be that way. If you would like pictures I can post them if you can tell me how. I have them here and I will email them to anyone who may know how to post them.

To post photos, goto a photo hosting site like PhotoBucket.com and create and account. Upload you pics there and the under each photo is a field called IMG CODE, click on it, the field automatically copies the code and you past it in the forum, preview it and post. Only upload your pics in 800x600 format.

Your spare hazard switch you bought can be sanded on the top with 1000 grit to remove the black and then you can mask off a picture of a camera and paint it black. Then you will have a custom button.

The blinkers seem loud enough. I noticed that the sound actually comes out of the GMCOL11 wiring harness. It has a switch on it that says chime on/off. When I found this was the source of the sound, we moved it from directly behind the radio over towards the drivers footwell. That made all the difference.
