Has anyone made modifications to the sound system? I have the

Sound system, ETR AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback, includes Radio Data System (RDS), seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, speed-compensated volume and TheftLock

This system Rocks I was wondering if anyone has changed speakers or pulled them out and looked at them?

Has anyone used an adapter to put in an aftermarket headunit?

I've found some adapters I think will work, but I'm wanting to hear from someone who had done it to see how it looks and what functionality is lost without the factory unit.

I know I'll lose the steering wheel controls, but with my hand on the stick, it's farther to reach those controls than the ones on the headunit anyway.

But now I'm hearing I'll lose the chimes, and other warnings, since they are fed through the speakers. I'm assuming they are fed through the headunit, not direct wired to the speakers.

Kappashere, you guys might want to think about reverse-engineering that monsoon subwoofer enclosure so those of us wanting to upgrade have a way to mount a sub. I think the factory enclosure is plastic.

Anyway, all I've seen so far on the forum are the high end show car installations at sema. Any of you shade-tree stereo installers done one yourself?

Anyone? ..............Bueller?

I plugged in 2006 Solstice at Crutchfield's site and all the radios came up "modified fit" which means there's a little work to be done.

Quote:
Installation Details for your 2006 Solstice
» Caution! You will need to modify your vehicle to install this product. We strongly recommend contacting a Crutchfield Sales Advisor to discuss your installation and your options. Modifications may include cutting wires, plastic, or metal, and may include fabricating brackets, panels, or other parts, and the installation instructions or guides we may be including do not cover these modifications. Once your vehicle has been modified, it may not be possible to return it to the factory specs or appearance.
» Because the factory warning chime will be lost if the factory radio is removed, it is not recommended that the factory radio be replaced.
» You'll get free lifetime tech support for as long as you own your gear

I just wonder if anyone has really looked at the car in detail yet since they are kind of hard to get a hold of?

I am yet to see a factory speaker that was really a great speaker. Even premium systems tended to have not so great speakers. What do you really want to know about them?

The only thing I did tonight was mess with the equalizer since I wasn't getting enough highs. Once I spun everything to the far right, it sounded great.
like your plates btw.

Few things to remember....1st The size of the factory stereo is larger tan any normal Stereo GM has don this for years now and most ne radios would require a special plastic spacer to fit an aftermarket...There are some GM sized aftermarket but as a whole size is different....which leads to the 2nd point...You own a convertable...No one would steal a factory system but the minute you put an aftermarket in ther and possible a spacer along with it you are just asking for trouble!
